The accommodation here is wonderfully affordable and very clean. Hosts are super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Also great huge portions for meals that are also well priced. Wonderfully inviting local bar feels like home away from home. It’s a hard place to leave.

Great pub hotel with amazing West Coast hospitality. A welcome stop biking the Wilderness Trail. A great mix of a local pub and welcoming tourists. We loved it so much we ditched Stumpers the next night and came back for a meal. Hospitality is fantastic. Great work Team Pioneer.

We had a drink and tea here after a local recommended it. Tea was great. Friendly staff. Basic pub menu. We both had chicken snitchel and loved it. Two course meal for $20. Soup or ice-cream sunday. It is only 5 min walk from beach front, well worth it!!

Travelling and the suggestion was to try here !! Beaut meal and friendly staff. Nothing was a bother Recommend ! A short walk away 400 metres from the motel but it seemed we were going to nowhere just google 80 Gibson Quay.

We ate at the Pioneer Hotel on the recommendation of our B&B host. It was an excellent choice. While the menu was limited due to a recent food fair in the town, there were still plenty of options. The food was very good, both I terms of quality and quantity. Good service too. Thanks:)

We stayed two blocks away at the Stopforth Hotel and the restaurant at the Pioneer Hotel was highly recommended. Very friendly and welcoming wait staff. Excellent Seafood Chowder, thick and creamy with fresh seafood and served with garlic bread. Also delicious was the lightly battered fried fish. We were delighted to have found such a gem within walking distant from our hotel!

Hotel was recommended by BnB Host.. Greeted with a huge welcome when we entered, and shown to a table with menu.. drink order taken at table and brought over (bar tab set up). Drinks were frosty cold and meals came out quickly when ordered.. had the Orange Roughy fish and chips and the seafood chowder ($18). simple pub meals done exceptional.. the chowder was full of hearty pieces of mixed seafood.

Sensational food that was presented like 5 star restaurant, we had Fish (monk) & chips, Roasted Vegetables with chicken, kumura, pumpkin, potatoes & tasted delicious staff friendly, setting awesome highly recommend

What a gorgeous pub! We were seated in the lovely garden for our dinner and drinks. Great a**osphere, service and food. Would highly recommend to anyone visit Hokitika. Speights gold and cider on tap, winning!!!
