Stumpers Hotel

Great central location and comfy beds. Rooms were tidy and clean. Booked two rooms but on different floors. Rooms are noisey with people moving about closing doors. Couldn’t book in for dinner as only taking walk ins. Had to get in early. Meal was lovely, staff were busy

We arrived here in the crazy busy time of late December holiday season, it was a Thursday. The hotel was decent with good amenities in the kitchenette, plus beds and shower ok. It was a tad loud as there were fire doors between rooms you could hear people talking in the room next door. When we got there, no parking was available as it was open parking for all including people going to the pub.

Very modern, clean and right in town. Limited parking out the back. If travelling with mountain/road bikes, they do have an external room you can lock them in. No seating in the accommodation room other than a dining chair, nowhere to hang clothes and it was quite noisy on a Saturday night but for 1 or 2 nights, it’s a good choice.

Accommodation is slap in the centre of town, 2 minute walk to the beach, and with a good pub attached. Service on check-in was quick and easy and the chap who booked us in was very nice, asking about our day etc. Room was clean, had everything needed, bed was comfy. The room faced the rear of the hotel with some cars parked there, one of which the alarm went off early in the morning - not the hotel's fault at all, however if you are the type who wants a lie-in I'd request a room facing the front of the building if possible. No problem for us though. Overall very good value.

On checking in on a not very friendly welcome the woman pointed in the direction of our room no. 6 we followed a hallway to room 5 then up a stairwell and back down a long corridor to the end to room 6 which happened to be across from a stairwell which led downstairs straight back to reception, lucky we had no luggage she had sent us the long way around. Sleepless night, doors banging, paper thin walls and shocking mattress. Will have to visit the chiropractor after leaving here.

The staff were friendly and rooms spacious. I did not however appreciate the knock on my door at 9 am to deliver fresh towels ( no room servicing just towel delivery) My room was a bit cold. It had a heat pump but that still took ages to warm the room. The wall heater was on a timer and didn’t stay on. My parents room just had the wall heater which warmed their room warmer than mine as they could keep it on.

Warm responsive reception who were very helpful. We had all we needed in our room for a comfortable stay. A fridge, a good size servery area. Nice ensuite with good size shower. A comfortable double bed. A lift would have been great but would have been a big surprise.

We were booked into Stumpers hotel as I was here before. Level 4 lockdown made it difficult for us, but as essential worker we had to come and finish our job. The owner were extremely helpful and gave us a room upgrade so we could use a small kitchen the premium rooms have. They also supplied us with food every day to make sure we feel comfortable. Real Kiwi-hospitality. After lockdown we could use the bar and restaurant again. As before this is highly recommended for good food and I promise you will never leave hungry ;-) All staff very helpful and friendly but recommend to book. Rooms and food are best value you can get in Hokitika. Be back next year!

Right in the heart of Hokitika this was well priced and had most of what we wanted. The room however was hot and stuffy and only had a fan to keep us cool which was not that effective. There was no one in reception when we tried to check in for 20 minutes and I had to go into the cafe to try and get a staff member. We were in a wheelchair room and although large they had mounted the bathroom mirror so high that someone in a wheelchair would not have been able to use it and there was no low shelfing in the bathroom.
