Had a lovely stay at the Bridge Inn for a couple of nights whilst we climbed Scafell Pike. Breakfast included which was delicious and even accommodating for me being vegan. Ate dinner here too and they serve massive portions (needed after the hike). Would definitely recommend.

My friend and I went to the Bridge Inn Santon on Saturday with the intention of having a meal there. The barman told us that if there was a table without a 'Reserved' sign on we could order a meal. We found a table for two and I sat there with my drink whilst my friend went to the bar to order food. Whilst she was there, the manager approached me and asked if we were residents. When I said 'No' he said we couldn't eat there, they were only serving residents. I pointed out my friend was at the bar ordering meals and he went to the bar and stopped her. He refunded the money for my drink. The good news is that we then went to the Pennington Hotel in Ravenglass, where we were welcomed and served delicious meals, far superior to the mediocre meals we had eaten at The Bridge on 2 previous nights, and at the same prices! Many thanks to the manager of the Bridge for kicking us out - he did us a massive favour. Maybe he should attend a "Welcome to my pub" course to learn how to treat paying customers. Other friends who came away with us are eating at the Pennington Hotel tonight on our recommendation. It pays to treat customers well - word spreads.

We decided to go out for a belated Mothering Sunday dinner to The Bridge. The specials board had some interesting items and 2 out of the 4 of us ordered from that. My wife is essentially vegan so there was limited choice, but at least there was a choice ! Variety of meals including the clack & blue salad which I thoroughly enjoyed. Staff as always were friendly and there was nice atmosphere with locals & walkers in the bar. Prices are on par with other bars / restaurants in the area. Would we go back - yes. Would we recommend - yes

I had dinner here on a very quiet Thursday evening. I ordered chicken schnitzel, french fries and dressed salad. The chicken was okay, a bit tough in places, the plate was piled high with skinny fries and the dressed salad consisted of salad leaves with lots and lots of red onions on top, not a tomato or cucumber in sight. The salad did come with an unexpected added extra, what appeared to be a mouldy piece of cardboard. Unfortunately it was amongst the salad leaves and I didn't see it. I realised what bit was when I couldn't chew this 'added extra '. I pointed it out to the waitress and asked her to tell the 'chef'. £21 for my meal and half a lime and soda, I certainly won't be going back especially as I was quite ill when I got home.

Nice building from the outside, cosy and busy. Dog friendly and a nice fire. However, the staff were not particularly friendly or attentive and the food was well below standards for the price paid ( the food wasn’t fresh and the quality was poor). Sadly wouldn’t go there again.

Worked well for us. Older inn so some noise from adjoining rooms can be expected. Breakfast was very good and had 2 dinners there- both good, a step above pub food. Friendly staff. Great location for hiking in Eskdale area. Wifi was acceptable but not PW protected.

Nice place to stay after a day exploring the area. Staff were generally nice and friendly. Bar had a lovely fire and the food was good. Room was as expected for a pub, you can see efforts have been made to make it a bit more modern but there was a bit of a musty smell. The main issue was our room had a lightbulb from the sign right outside of our window, so that even with the curtains shut it was really bright in the room. It meant we struggled to fall asleep as it really was very bright. A blackout blind would be much better
