Well, this is our first time at the Mercure Dunkirk, a new hotel that still needs to be tweaked. The young staff at check-in should be clear that you are entering the hotel as a paying customer and that guests should be treated in a friendly, polite and service-oriented manner. On the second day, the staff stood in front of the reception desk and basically served the guests from there and drank coffee (not acceptable). A message was sent to the building services department about a broken floor lamp in the room (building services said they would fix it tomorrow, why not immediately) but it had not been fixed before we left. The following comments were made about breakfast: far too many scrambled eggs in the bain marie, small amount for breakfast, bacon on toast has the advantage that it is not all drowned in fat. The Mercure Hotel Dunkirk does not exude a feel-good atmosphere. We will check on our next trip to Dunkirk to see if any of the screws have been tweaked.
