My stay at the Mong Kok New Century Hotel was an utterly horrific experience. I strongly advise anyone visiting Hong Kong to avoid this hotel at all costs. Here's a detailed account of what actually happened:
1. On the first day, I discovered the landline phone was broken. I went down to the lobby and asked the front desk staff to come up and check it. A female staff member grudgingly followed me up, picked up the phone, and asked, 'Are you sure you know how to use a phone?' She had an obvious look of disdain for mainlanders on her face. What's so hard about using a landline? After fiddling with it for a bit, she realized the phone was indeed broken. Her face darkened instantly, and she abruptly took the phone away, muttering something about it 'not being used for a long time' and 'having an interface problem.' Not a single apology was offered!
2. After she took the phone, I thought it would be inconvenient to contact the front desk without one, so I asked to add her on WeChat for easier communication. She pulled out her phone for me to scan, but I kept failing to add her. I tried to add her around 3 PM, and she finally accepted my request around 10 PM that evening! Is it really that difficult to add a WeChat friend? Does it take over 7 hours? This attitude clearly showed she looked down on me and didn't want to connect.
3. The room had a strong musty smell. No drinking water was provided. One of the table legs was wobbly, and I had to use a thick stack of tissues to prop it up so it could be used somewhat levelly.
4. The window-mounted air conditioner required manually opening the vent and adjusting it. It was incredibly noisy, so loud that I couldn't sleep at night. To make matters worse, the air blowing out had a rotten, moldy smell! It was absolutely infuriating.
5. As for the duvet on the bed, it had no proper cover. In other words, the duvet insert was just haphazardly stuffed inside. There were no ties or fasteners to keep it in place, so every time I turned over in my sleep, the insert would roll around inside. You can imagine how uncomfortable that was! My husband complained to the front desk, but nothing came of it, so we just slept like that for the remaining nights.
6. One evening, we returned to our room only to discover that the door was UNLOCKED!!!! All our luggage and belongings were inside. This shocking revelation left us utterly helpless. My child and I were so terrified we didn't even dare to enter the room again! My husband immediately rushed to the lobby to find the front desk. A female staff member told him, 'The hotel cleaning is outsourced, and the auntie who finished cleaning forgot to lock the door!' There are four rooms on our floor, with all sorts of people from different places. What if some random man had entered our room? The consequences are unimaginable, right? Later, we mustered up the courage to enter the room and cautiously checked everywhere – under the bed, inside closets, any potential hiding spots – and remained on edge until check-out. The front desk offered no apology and no follow-up; it was simply brushed aside!
Attached is the amount we paid for our hotel booking (5 nights)❗️❗️❗️

First off, the location is a major plus. It's only 300 meters from Mong Kok MTR station, and close to the Yau Ma Tei Police Station and Victoria Harbour, all within walking distance. However, for first-time visitors, you really need to look carefully for the sign, as the entrance is tiny – we spent ages trying to find it! Secondly, there are a few steps right at the entrance, which isn't ideal if you have luggage. I guess that's understandable given how expensive space is in Hong Kong. Thirdly, we were on the 11th floor, only accessible by elevator, and there was no fire escape, nor any gas masks in the room, which made me a bit nervous in hindsight. Lastly, being in a busy area, the windows aren't soundproof, so it was quite noisy at night. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to reconsider. We booked a family room, which cost 1000 yuan per night, so it wasn't overly cramped, which was fair for the price. Choose based on your own needs.

The sheets probably weren't changed after the last guest; they just straightened them out. And there were used condoms scattered all over the bathroom, which they didn't even bother to clean up. I definitely won't be staying here again.

The room was spacious and very clean. It's super convenient as soon as you step out, close to everything. The subway station is just a few minutes' walk away, and the congee shop next to the hotel is delicious, open until early morning.

This hotel boasts an excellent, convenient location, and the facilities are average, barely meeting expectations. However, I encountered a truly bizarre situation during this trip. The fire alarm blared incredibly loudly around 2-3 AM, and this happened on two separate nights, severely disrupting my sleep.
When I complained to the front desk, they apologized and explained that there was nothing they could do, as it was caused by other guests showering with their doors open, triggering the alarm with the steam. I then asked, 'If the alarm malfunctions for two nights straight, what good is it in a real fire?' The front desk again apologized, stating, 'There's nothing we can do, these are Hong Kong's fire safety regulations.'
I took a picture of a notice in the room stating that false fire alarms incur a HKD 2,000 fine. If they collect these fines, shouldn't they compensate guests like us who were woken up in the middle of the night?
It was truly a speechless experience.

For this price in a location like Mong Kok, you really can't expect much more... Luckily, it's very close to both the airport bus and the MTR station, making it super convenient for getting to the airport, even late at night with direct routes available.

The service was terrible. The emergency light in the room kept flashing all night, and the air conditioner was louder than a tractor.

Great location! There's a cross-border bus, and tons of food options nearby like Sushiro, ramen, Genki Sushi, Cafe de Coral, cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes), and roasted meats. It was super convenient for the concert I attended!
