A memorable trip but for all the wrong reasons. As we planned our mini vacation to soak up the sun and salt water views, we were so excited to be able to have our first trip together. After we carefully planned out our vacation to ensure ADA accessibility won’t hinder us from enjoying our stay at the beach turned into an absolute nightmare upon arrival. Rewind to when we first called to book our ADA king room with a roll in shower at Embassy Suites. The customer rep we spoke with, Jason, ensured us we would have the room we requested with ocean view. We requested to book a cabana for Thursday, 6/27 as well while on the phone with Jason, but was instructed we needed to do that online. So we hung up, and booked the cabana as intended. As the days leading up to our trip the excitement was setting in. Day 1: 6/26 Now that we are packed up and ready for our trip away, we drive to Embassy Suites. Upon arrival, I check in using my boyfriend’s ID and credit card as he waited in the truck. Being that he has a spinal cord injury from when he was 18, we try to keep transfers from his truck to wheelchair to a minimum if possible being that it’s hard on the body. After waiting for about 15 minutes to check in, it was my turn. I get up to the front desk, I tell them the last name on the reservation (Scurry) they look in the computer and unable to find the reservation under that name. So they asked for our confirmation number, I supply it. Still nothing. Front desk agent said they believe we are booked at the Hilton hotel on the Kingston Plantation Resorts. They call over to the Hilton Myrtle Beach and it was confirmed we were booked there. I said we didn’t book for the Hilton and we booked a room here at Embassy Suites at the Kingston Plantation Resort. They call their manager over, she comes up and stated there is nothing she can do and they are fully booked. I said so Jason in reservations who is that? She stated, we don’t have anyone here named Jason and it was central reservations there is nothing they can do. I said so what about our cabana, the manager goes well you can cancel and rebook at Hilton if you want but we can’t do that for you here. I asked if there was a way to access to Embassy from Hilton and was told there is a boardwalk connecting that we could use. Said thank you and left. Get to the truck where Shane is, and tell him. We both had no idea what the Hilton hotel even offered or looked like because we were planning and was under the assumption we had a ADA king room roll in shower with ocean view at the Embassy Suites. We drive the 8 minutes from Embassy to Hilton. I again, get out of the truck as Shane waits for me. I go inside, waited approximately another 20 or so minutes. As I get to the front desk, I tell the desk agent last name and present the ID for Shane. She tells me he needs to be present. I said he is in a wheelchair and we try to keep transfers to a minimum and we were just at Embassy and they had
