Vila Gale Evora

We were part of a group, so booked as part of the tour. Modern hotel with plenty of amenities. Just a ten minute walk to the main square. The room was fine if a bit noisy from people banging doors and talking in corridors. We had a 'superior' room, which was a waste of money - all you get extra as far as I could see was the bath robe and slippers. That forfeits a star for me. We had buffet dinner in the restaurant one evening, which was OK but just a bit manic. Breakfasts were not good - the food was fine but it kept running out especially if you get a coach load of Americans taking it all for their lunches; we just had to make do with what was left. The staff we met were helpful, though I have a suspicion that they are short of staff.

Stayed for 1 night with kids…great spacious hotel 5-8 mins walk to the Evora walled city. Several onsite facilities which we couldn’t use because they close by 7-8pm…I wish they stayed open late so we can enjoy after our full day excursion in the city. Excellent spread of breakfast buffet for every age and appetite. They also apparently had buffet dinner which we weren’t aware but looked quite appealing.

Extremely disappointing. The restaurant feels like a canteen. They charge you for any little opportunity available - parking, robe, swim cap, you name it.

First stop in Portugal was in Evora at the Vila Gale Evora Hotel. Our experience was wonderful. The hotel was very modern with restaurant, pool and bar. It was run very efficiently and the staff was very personable and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and bed was great. Give it 5 stars. Like to thank some staff ...Constanca, Joana, Bea and Miguel, the asst. mgr. for the restaurant reservation he got for us on our last night in Evora at"Lombardo's", it was a winner.

Liked: Clean comfortable room and bathroom. Pleasant, helpful receptionists. Excellent buffet breakfasts. Location on the fringe of the old city. Disliked: Shortage of plug points for devices. No coffee machine or fridge. No swimming pool robes (except in “superior” rooms) as you discover the hard way. Guests are issued tickets for towels at the pool but have to return to reception to ask for robes (€5 each), which are then delivered to their rooms on the far side of the hotel, to be fetched before trekking back to the brilliant heated pool. So if you want to swim, make sure you ask for a robe at check in.
