From the off, staff were friendly and helpful. A warm welcome seems to be guaranteed here. Took advantage of the 'sublime Sunday' offer which was half board for one night at a smashing price. Room was lovely. Stylish but very user friendly. Fridge, writing desk, banquette, very comfortable bed and good sized bathroom. Lovely touches such as the complimentary Sipsmith sloe gin. Generous portion, which was just as well as it's very moorish. Coffee and tea (Tea Pigs). Room was quiet and very well proportioned. We recieved a healthy £75 allowance for 2 for dinner, which was plenty. The roast was quite simply superb. Lamb perfectly cooked and pork rich and succulent. Great puddings, if you have room. Breakfast equally good. Great choice and healthy portions. Great for a stay if you're walking the Ridgeway path, which alas we had to cancel this time. We will definitely return to walk but equally to take advantage of the fabulous hospitality offered at the Bel and Dragon. 5 stars, no less.

I’ve stayed here with my son a few times and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. The staff are always really welcoming and friendly. The rooms are lovely- we’ve stayed in the small double and a family room (with bunk beds which my son loved) and both were perfect. Tastefully decorated, wonderfully comfortable beds and a lovely selection of special teas, coffee and chocolates which all makes it feel like a real treat to stay here. It’s a great location with easy parking and quiet at night. The breakfast selection is great and of very high quality. I’m sure we will be back!

We attended a wonderful wedding reception this weekend at the Bel & Dragon. The staff could not have been more welcoming, helpful and professional - nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and the service exceptional. Plenty of car parking. Our room was beautiful, bed comfortable, coffee & tea facilities and complimentary sloe gin as a night cap. We will be returning for a meal, there was also a board showing a programme of special nights. Thank you The Abel & Dragon.

This was my first stop while walking the Ridgeway and I couldn't have wished for better. I was given an upgrade (!) and stayed in Ivinghoe. I had a large room with a bath - which I was grateful for. Although a large place it was very quiet. The food was excellent - both at dinner and at breakfast - as was the service. Even better - it was right on the Ridgeway so no detour required.

A beautiful, "olde worlde" coaching inn, with friendly, obliging staff. We were fortunate to be allowed to move from our originally room allocation; in a block directly opposite the noisy smoking area, with a large gap beneath the (external) door. The toilet seat didn't stay up (awkward for any man!), and the rear windows were covered in cobwebs. Our replacement room was well-presented and the bed was extremely comfortable. The complimentary gin was a nice touch, as were the large bottles of toiletries! The TV wasn't working correctly (lack of signal?) although this wasn't a major issue for us. Generally, a lovely location for a short break.

We stayed just the one night in Wendover as visiting locally. This is a pub that offers rooms rather than a hotel as such, and it does what it promises very well. Great welcome and shown up to our room by the assume manageress, just after check in time at 3pm and she kindly explained the rooms facilities. For a petit double our room was an excellent size with a full wardrobe, writing desk and seat plus a large bathroom with shower over bath. Our room overlooked the pretty rear courtyard/gardens rather than the street view so we were very pleased. The room had a minibar/fridge with water and small bottle of milk plus a kettle, coffee machine and pods- a nice touch. The bed was a large double, very comfy with multiple pillows/cushions. The bathroom was great, toiletries included and the waterfall shower over bath was lovely, with good quality fluffy white towels provided. A much needed Dyson fan was thoughtfully placed in the room. This is an older building so the sash type windows only open a little and without the fan may get hot in high summer. We had a great night sleep, no disturbance from the pub itself and minimal road noise considering the busy high street. Breakfast was served in the downstairs restaurant and included a hot cooked to order menu and a cold self service buffet with fruit, yoghurt pots, toast, juice, fruit salad etc. The cooked to order menu was extensive- choices of eggs anyway, breakfast baps, smashed avocado and eggs Benedict, Royal etc- we had the full English. Would I stay again? absolutely if visiting the area as the price for the room and included breakfast was very good value. Our only slightly negative comment was that the bar prices are quite steep in the pub itself, compared with other local establishments.

Lovely roast beef and salmon nicoise lunch, plus sides, all perfectly cooked. Service here is exceptional. Very good wine list. Friendly atmosphere, beautiful pub with lovely outdoor seating area too, a real treat eating here. Have stayed here previously in the lovely rooms, also beautiful. Car park available.
