Where is the luxury, and does it even feel responsible? Our recent stay at ITC Kohinoor was marred by a problematic check-in process, which set the tone for a disappointing overall experience. We booked the hotel through the BonVoy app. My husband is a platinum member of the group. You cannot book a reservation through the app if you do not secure your credit card details. Was surprised when the hotel requested a pre-authorization on our credit card. This was a first for us, despite staying at numerous Marriott properties. Although unexpected, we were okay because we had to pay for it anyway. The Luxury Hour: To our dismay, nothing was remotely luxurious about this hour! This concept failed to deliver any sense of luxury. Without delving into every detail, it was clear that this offering fell short compared to other hotels, even within the ITC group. The Pavilion Restaurant—We went to the Pavilion restaurant and asked what time the buffet started. The concept of eye contact does not exist in this hotel. the staff member at the Pavilion restaurant didn’t bother to make eye contact, and she was engrossed in her computer as she responded. Inquiring about the Peacock Bar resulted in the same lack of engagement, with her pointing to the bar without looking up. Her demeanour was dismissive and unfriendly. Food at the restaurant:- Typically, chefs in high-end restaurants interact with guests, gather feedback, and occasionally prepare special items. However, during our entire stay, we never saw the chef at the Pavilion. Probably, they knew their food was below average. The food was disappointingly bland, especially considering we were in Telangana, known for its fiery cuisine. When I requested chili sauce for my dim sum, the staff initially said they didn't have it. After noticing my reaction, they eventually brought some pickles instead, which was laughable given ITC's reputation for excellent Chinese cuisine. My husband's laughter was the only highlight in this otherwise disappointing dining experience. ITC has one of the best Chinese (at least in Delhi) Yi Jing is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. I love Chinese food, and I have tried almost every single restaurant that serves Chinese food. Without a doubt, I can say Yi Jing, Sheraton Delhi is the best Chinese restaurant. With such a legacy, ITC Kohinoor serves me Dim sum with pickles. The SPA: The spa experience was equally frustrating. The staff either didn't understand English or chose not to respond to customer queries. Moreover, they were rarely available to address any concerns. There were numerous other incidents that contributed to our dissatisfaction, but I’ll refrain from listing them all. To sum it up - the trip was disastrous. Every single staff attitude was wrong. The only people who were grounded and were smiling were the housekeeping staff / the guards / the janitor! My question remains: Responsible Luxury – Is this a joke? Last but not the least.
