In 2019 I stayed opposite this hotel and wondered a lot about it as it is at the end of a dilapidated Victorian terrace. Nothing much had changed in 2023. The inside is clean but still features Covid signs and the lift is a scissor gate type from the 1930s smelling of old museums. But it’s reasonably priced, the room was huge, fairly newly decorated, beds comfy and breakfast freshly cooked and good choice. This hotel has survived where grander one’s in Ilfracombe are now shut. Malcolm and his staff soon sorted out any requests we had for towels sheets and Tv to be tuned. Accessed by steps on both sides from street and carpark.

The window was so dirty with large dollops of seagull poo , toilet was black under the rim, it took 3 wet wipes to clean, base of taps dirty and could do with a good clean, room not cleaned in the 2 weeks we were there nor was the bathroom cleaned in that time. TV was a bit hit and miss so gave up in the end, we were on the third floor so had to run shower for 15 mins to get hot water, room very hot but was told on the last day we could have had a fan!! Stephen was brilliant, the place would go to pot if it wasn't for her. On the plus side the breakfast was brilliant. The parking is awful so can be expensive to stay there. Personally I wouldn't go and stay there again but that's my opinion

We had an excellent stay. When we arrived the parking was a bit tight and the receptionist came out and moved her own car so we could fit in the space - all the staff were brilliant, friendly and went over and beyond. Our first impressions when we arrived outside weren’t great, I’ll admit. But it just got better and better. Our room was clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet, with a bath and tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was freshly cooked each morning and of a good quality. Ignore the negative comments and book this hotel, it is exceptional value for money and in a brilliant location.

Greeting could of been a bit more friendly, room was right next to lift and stairs so was noisy, would prefer a proper shower, bathroom window was falling out, hair dryer didn’t work

Very friend staff, excellent covid protection. We took our own towels but in fact they were provided by the hotel in a sealed bag. Hotel looks tired from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised by the interior. Our room was very modern and in excellent decorative order. Breakfast was served by helpful staff and very good.

Very disappointing! First impression was the seagull poo on the dirty window, no grip mat in the bath, hubby slipped and hurt his back, was given one after the event. Was on the 3rd floor and the room was very hot, was told on the last day that we could have had a fan , tv only worked sometimes depending on the signal from wales, the bed was clean and comfy but had a waterproof mattress cover on it so it made it even hotter and crackled when you got in. I wouldnt go there again, if steph , who did everything ,ever left the place it would go under as she was marvellous

The best thing about the hotel was its location, near Jubilee Gardens and Capstone Hill and across a small road to the Tunnels beaches. It's a short stroll away to the coastal paths and picturesque harbour. Also a bus stop for Woolacombe and Barnstaple buses a few minutes walk away and there's a Lidl across a small road. Not much parking on site but there is free on road parking close by. Although inside and outside is scruffy and uncared for our room was very clean when we arrived, pleasingly decorated and nicely furnished and the bed comfortable. We also had a small balcony which we could sit out on. The bathroom looked like it had been redone but there was nowhere to put toiletries there or hooks to hang clothes. Also the flush took about 15 minutes to fill back up. There was a good variety of hot and cold breakfasts and it was very generous but unfortunately the cooking wasn't to our liking. You also had to stipulate the time you wanted breakfast and to sit where they told you. The main issue for us was the housekeeping, the balcony looked like it had never been cleaned as did all the hotel's windows and the steps outside both entrances which also needed a good weeding. The room was never vacuumed (maybe the excuse was Covid? ) but they did come in and fold corners of the loo paper and redo the bed so I don't see why they couldn't vacuum the floor. You will need ear plugs at night for the very noisy Ilfracombe seagulls which are everywhere, but not for the busy main road which was actually very quiet at night. We don't recognise this hotel from some of the reviews here and especially the mention of the hotel gym and swimming pool! Maybe some people are confusing it with another hotel. We'd come back to Ilfracombe but would not stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights, which was enough. Our room was ok, but the bathroom was small and the shower attachment wouldn’t stay in the correct position, thus making it difficult to use, also the towels weren’t replaced on our second day? The “saving grace” was the breakfast, which was very good and served by a friendly member of staff. The only downside was you had to specify a time to eat, which was quite regimented. Overall the hotel was quite shabby, especially the outside - we won’t be back.
