The hotel was comfortable, staff friendly and helpful. However the number of dogs was overwhelming. Well behaved dogs are fine but on a couple of occasions we were disturbed by barking dogs, once in the brasserie and once in our room. Given the price of the hotel, I felt it was unacceptable. I complained when we were trying to watch a film in our room and the staff sorted it out.

I have wanted to visit this hotel for quite sometime so our 46 wedding anniversary was quite appropriate. Firstly, we had a room upgrade that was a let down; the room was small, the bathroom even smaller - a shower in bath that was a huge climb in and then struggled as it was soo narrow it was hard to balance. The mattress was waay to soft and absolutely awful pillows, like sleeping on stone! The leisure centre! Firstly across a busy road that is main route into the dales. I had slippers and a bath robe on to cross the road in the rain! Ridiculous! Very very badly designed leisure areA and I have been to many around the world- this the worst!you have to climb steep stairs to the locker room , come back down to swim/ spa and go back up and down to get ready. The only shower is in a small cubicle with a public toilet in ! Yuk! The pool itself extremely hot I almost passed out and soo noisy from waterfalls so loud you couldn’t speak to your partner. This place badly though out, badly designed and definitely NOT for anyone not too good on their feet or disabled ! The evening restaurant was miles away from the rooms so much so we and another couple thought we’d got lost! We ordered our starter and were given something totally different no explanation, did the chef think we were stupid? We were also charged for two glasses of Chardonnay we did not have! The worst! Middle of the night the fire alarms went off. After a while we thought ‘nobody is coming we better go see’. Others had started to do the same. The alarm went off for half hour or more with no member of staff anywhere near us. Finally after over 40 minutes firemen came and told us there was a small fire in the kitchen, all sorted and we could go back to bed. Not then, nor in the morning was there ever an apology! I didn’t sleep after that so the next day was ruined, plans gone and we just packed up early and went home. I’m sure this hotel was in breach of rules and regulations for said fire and I will myself, be looking into this for sure. We will never frequent this place ever again and don’t advise anyone else to ! Back to The Coniston’ next time far nicer and safer!

Wonderful location, we called it idyllic. A beautiful property, stunning Yorkshire stone, we stayed in a room in the new wing. A deluxe double with a view over to the hills and the cricket! Why a 3, maybe it should be a 3.5. Spa was good, friendly staff and clean. Nice lounge area to sit and have coffee. Steam room didn’t appear to be working and the sauna was full. A fun shower with different settings. The actual pool area had some good fountains/jacuzzi areas. Not too busy and enjoyable. The welcome to the hotel was wonderful, our guide who showed us around the hotel was full of interesting facts. She took us to our room which on initial appearances felt luxurious, lovely looking room. Superb view, 4 biscuits (two each a couple more would be nice), a nice bottle of Rioja. Clean towels and bathrobes, slippers in drawer we didn’t spot to use. Spacious enough for two adults, lovely comfortable bed. The issues were : bed sheet had holes in it and was stained. It was late on when we realised so we just slept in them. I did let reception know as we went to check out. Breakfast - this is sooooooo slow!!!!! We arrived at around 930 and didn’t get our food for 45 mins, my poached eggs were no longer soft the bacon was dry and one tiny shrunken mushroom! But the pastries and fruit salad and orange juice was delicious. The toast was cold. It all took forever though. I know they’re busy but they need to get this right. The staff are good at apologising and they’re clearly proud of where they work and I think equally frustrated by the speed of the kitchen. We ate at the brasserie - it was again ‘ok’ service again was excellent. Toilets were messy but I let the staff know. The mushroom starter was delicious and the cod main was tasty, the parfait was stuff frozen inside but it was tasty. Not sure it was worth what we paid to be honest. But we had an enjoyable restful time. The breakfast meant we lost a lot of time in the morning for our walk. Also it was a bit annoying the sheets were holey and stained. We didn’t ask for a refund or any money back, it would have been nice to be offered,

We had a lunch and spa half day deal. The lunch was excellent. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff amazing and helpful. In contrast the spa is out of date. The staff are lovely and professional. There's one toilet in the changing rooms. There is nowhere to put used towels. The robes are well worn and snagged. The plastic glasses are cracked and broken. The table cloth that holds the lemon juice tank was dirty. One table had fairy rings and hadn't been wiped. The pool had a dirty tide mark around the edge. The steps were dirty. There was a weird giant vinyl lounge thing that had no purpose. Some sort of odd dirty head rests in the pool. We didn't stay.

The third time we've stayed at this beautiful hotel and it didn't disappoint! We ate at the brasserie and sat outside on the lawn to make the most of the gorgeous weather. Service is professional but always friendly. Pretty location. Lovely decor. Great spa. I'm sure we'll be back again soon.

Went to the pub for food . It’s so over priced for what you get . Foods similar to a chain pub like Toby carvery . But the prices were shocking . £21 for a beef dinner that should be more like £12 and chicken burger frozen Cheap chicken. Cheap hash browns and cheap cheese ,tiny portion of coleslaw and mayo . Asked for lemonade and fresh orange , got it in a half pint glass but price was same as a pints worth . again had better at chain pubs but paid double here . Won’t be going back .

21 of us came here for a meal for my sisters 30th birthday and every single one of us were very happy with the service. The food was amazing and the staff couldn’t do enough for you, we were very well looked after and nothing was too much to ask. This definitely won’t be our last visit. Thank you again!

Visited today for afternoon tea and everything was fresh and delicious, the polenta chip was a real winner. We brought some desserts home to eat later as we were full up of amazing food. We were looked after so well by Danni who clearly loves her job and a fantastic advertisement for the Devonshire Arms.
