“Classically American” in its design, this family home in Woodstock is very flexible. The main house + attached apartment sleep up to 11 adults. In total, 5 bedrooms, 4 baths. Apartment has its own kitchen and laundry. Too much space? Main house sleeps 7 adults and comes with a discount--please contact us. Large family gatherings are very popular here. And in the warmer months, there is a very special pool/pond.Both the main house and the apartment have their own laundry facilities. The spacious deck off the main-house kitchen is great for outdoor cooking on the gas grill, and the large backyard is wonderful for playing. The man-made natural pool pond is wonderful for swimming during the summer months, and beautiful to look at any time of year. The pool/pond is lined, fresh water, filtered by special plants. No chemicals at all. The black liner absorbs a lot of sun, and the pond is heated naturally that way.NOTE: Price quoted is for both the main house and apartment. Main house only is less. If you're here during the winter, you can enjoy the cozy woodstove in the dining room, safe and snug as you drink your morning coffee looking out into the woods to spot wildlife, and to watch the snow fall on the pond. The backyard is big, a perfect place for building your best snowman ever! The name of our property—Shanti Neer—means place of peace. It is a serene and spacious 2+ acre property. But you are also just about twelve minutes away from Saugerties for great antiquing and HITS! And if you have Mall withdrawal, a fifteen-minute drive will take you to Kingston for suburban shopping, or a quaint visit to the Stockade Area where the original capital of New York State was actually placed!THINGS TO DO: Woodstock, the original Colony of the Arts, is on the threshold of the 700,000-acre Catskill State Park, where a farming community settled by the Dutch in the 17th century found a way to accommodate all those crazy artists that arrived in the early 20th century. The beauty of the Catskill Mountains inspired the Byrdcliffe Art Colony, became the summer home of the New York Art Students League, and gave rise to the Maverick Concert Hall. There is more to do here than you can imagine! There are great restaurants and cafes boasting international cuisine as well as American, boutiques, antique stores, health-food stores, an art store, a movie house, two book stores, an exceptional shoe store, and the best hardware store in the world. And, of course, you can visit Byrdcliffe and The Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, or you can hear great chamber music in the woods at Maverick. Nearby you will find golf, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, tennis, river walks and even river dips, bike rentals, sledding and snow-shoeing. Check out galleries, the week-end flea market, mid-week farmer's market. And as you'd expect in Woodstock -- there’s a wide selection of yoga, massage, Pilates, Reiki, and Qigong, not to mention spa services. If esoterica is what you are after, psychic, tarot and astrological readings are of course always on offer! For fun, join the Sunday afternoon open drumming sessions on 'the village green' right in the center of town. You'll also find places of worship of many denominations: Catholic; Jewish; Christian; Hindu; Buddhist—Zen and Tibetan, plus several different spiritual retreat centers. We invite you to come see for yourself and greatly look forward to welcoming you!**For your own peace of mind, please purchase Trip Insurance.**About pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 11:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.About checkIn:Check in after 4:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About minBookingAge:Minimum age to rent: 28.About events:No events allowed.

We also did the hike this morning and loved it - went to the top of Mt. Guardian as per your notes, and found that secret vantage point where you look out at Cooper Lake... Hiked overlook mountain yesterday - the views were astonishing - though we were not brave enough to go the distance to Indian Head. We also found our way to the swimming hole and absolutely loved it... As I'm sure you can tell, we love it up here and wanted to see if you'd be interested in renting the house to us Columbus Day weekend... Certainly a bit of a shock to be back in the city after our days on Mt. Guardian.Guest Book: We really enjoyed ourselves in the Catskills and the house was lovely - exactly what we were after. I think we saw a bobcat although I confess to being ignorant of North American wildlife. We saw it reasonably close to the house. In any case, we loved staying in your charming forest getaway. Everything was fantastic and the hike from the house to the view was such a bonus. Also an activity you can include for future guests is inner tubing in Phoenica. This is an architect/artist home featured in various design magazines including Architectural Digest and Icon Design Magazine Italy. GQ magazine rated the Pond House amongst the 7 best vacation rentals in the US.  In short walking distance to the center of Woodstock the secluded setting with a surrounding pond and private waterfall bordering public preserves, as well as the attention to architectural detail, is unique. The Pond House is the 1930s original Reginald Marsh artist studio building with 16' ceiling height and tall artist windows. Frederick Dana Marsh, father of the well known Social Realist painter Reginald Marsh, married Mabel Van Alstyne in 1930, starting a notable artistic partnership as the Van Alstyne Marsh Collection that was later acquired by the Smithsonian Institution. Their home was unique for Woodstock —'It was in the background of the Mona Lisa; a Van Gogh landscape; a train ride through Tuscany, ball shaped junipers;  a pond that bracketed the house;  expansive lawns; a gathering of birches.  But most of all, big cone shaped cedar trees.  It is a marvelous thing to look up at backlit clouds at sunset, see the intrusion of cedar peaks, pointing up like soft missiles and the erratic flight of mosquito catcher bats making ninety degree turns down the channels between the trees.  A photographer friend was here last weekend, “Don't worry about framing the picture, just point and shoot.  The landscaper framed it for you hundred years ago." ' Here we quote Austin Metze, a long time Woodstock writer. Today the former artist studio of the estate is an architect-renovated gem featuring elevated design standards that include architectural details, high vaulted ceilings, original art work, a hand-selected library, a piano, a wood burning stove. The contemporary kitchen is fully equipped with premium appliances and amenities. The house comes with central A/C and radiant floor heat. The floor plan is open, which is ideal for a family, but not ideal for guests seeking privacy from each other. It’s a socially enhancing and creative space, from the bedrooms to the open dining/living room, gardens and terraces with an outdoor charcoal grill, outdoor dining and lounge areas. There are 2 bedrooms and a kids room, the master bedroom is offering an especially tranquil overlook of the pond under the stars, with floor to ceiling windows on three sides without obstructing shades. It is open to the staircase with the kids room adjacent. The kids room with a twin-sized bed can only be accessed through the master bedroom. The queen-size bedroom is next to the bathroom downstairs, adjacent to the pond with a glass facade and sliding doors to the staircase and bathroom. It's a very special room, with deer walking by the glass facade a few feet from the bed. There are no neighbors on that side of the house, hence the glass facade in both bedrooms and bathroom need no coverings. Pond and Carriage House are separated by the owner-occupied adjacent Manor House, facing away from each other ensuring privacy. No other house is visible from inside the Pond House with its own designated back yard facing the pond and the stream. The grounds and pond surrounding the Pond House are reserved for the Pond House. The Pond House feels very secluded, since two sides of the property are bordering preserves. The pond is not a swimming pond, but the stream comes with multiple swim holes and a waterfall.
