I have to couch this review by being sure to put it into perspective. Pleasant Bay is about as far north as you can go on Cape Breton/Cabot Trail. There is almost nothing there (other than the spectacular National Park and coastline, of course). That said, as one of the few places where you can eat and grab a bite, especially before tourist season opens things up, the Mountain View is fine place to stay. It has the feel of a 1950s motel, which I happen to love. While our room was well used, the bed was actually one of the more comfortable in our entire one-month visit to Eastern Canada. What it is is a great launching point to visiting the northern parts of Cape Breton. We had dinner and breakfast at its restaurant because it met our two top criteria: good food and it was open.
