Jiaxing Yuanhu Hotel

Yuanhu Hotel is a boutique hotel with a strong Republican-era vibe, excellent location, and unique, albeit few, rooms. The staff are courteous, and the food is authentic. I'll definitely stay here again.

This hotel feels like a plastic flower – great location, but completely out of sync with its surroundings. You can't even drive up to the entrance! I had to haul my luggage 100-200 meters myself. Plus, the hotel's structure has numerous design flaws, like multi-layered windows. If you open a window, the curtains can't be drawn! The decor attempts to appear stylish but ends up looking cheap. The staff also seemed green and poorly trained. The breakfast is a set menu, and the quality is terrible. For example, the ham sausage is just flour sausage – it looks plentiful, but the portions are small and the quality is poor. It just gives the illusion of a wide variety.

No, no, no! It's completely useless except for its location... There are no delivery robots. I killed six mosquitoes in one room last night, and still got three bites! I could hear people talking by the lake outside, and the shops downstairs had background music playing "WeChat payment 3 yuan~". The background music in the hallway was also faintly audible. There was a mosquito that a mouse had dropped next to my towel, and I killed a pill bug on the floor. The path from the underground parking lot to the hotel was also cramped! I didn't like it... The decor is indeed in the style of the Republic of China era, but it's a bit dated. Choose carefully!

The hotel boasts a prime location, offering views of Nanhu Lake from its windows, and a large shopping mall on the other side, making dining, accommodation, and transportation very convenient. The hotel breakfast is served in individual lunchboxes, a unique touch. The only drawback is the plastic sunflowers and large balloon models on the windowsill, which detract from the building's aesthetic appeal. The building itself is in the Republican-era style, which is quite distinctive.

I spent the weekend in Jiaxing and stayed at Yuanhu Hostel. The location was excellent, right in the Nanhu Tiandi commercial area, so I didn't have to worry about waiting for a table or staying out too late. Finding places to eat was also easy. The only downside was that because it's in a scenic area, there aren't many public transportation options nearby; the nearest bus stop is a 15-minute walk away. I stayed in a spacious double room. The room wasn't very big, but the window faced Nanhu Lake, and the pier for disembarking boats is also nearby. I was initially worried about noise, but it turned out the room was very well soundproofed, and I slept soundly. However, there was only one chair in the room, no sofa. There was a row of seats under the TV, meaning you couldn't watch TV while sitting, and you had to lie down in bed to watch TV. It would have been better if there were two sofa chairs. Room service was good; they delivered water and disposable items promptly and even helped with takeout. The bathroom water pressure was high, but after each shower, the adjacent toilet would be very wet. I hope this can be improved. In addition, the TV did not have screen mirroring, the remote control was not very easy to use, there was no hand sanitizer at the sink, but we asked customer service and they gave us soap. There was no full-length mirror or makeup mirror in the room, only two mirrors in front of the sink. It felt like various details needed improvement, but overall the impression of the two nights was quite good and the stay was very comfortable.
