XxskicoMy family wanted to try different hotels, so we booked two for our Jiuzhaigou trip: the Conrad and another equally pricey guesthouse. Based on our actual stay, the established hotel proved to be more reliable.
We booked a Deluxe Twin Room at the Conrad, and we weren't upgraded.
**The Good:**
1. The room itself was spacious enough. It was located on a relatively high spot within the Conrad complex, and the balcony offered a mountain view. The weather was lovely on the afternoon we checked in, so relaxing on the balcony, enjoying the sun, the view, and some tea was incredibly pleasant.
2. The overall service quality at the hotel was excellent, from check-in to the shuttle service within the complex, everything was convenient. My family had some skincare products delivered to the hotel at short notice, and they were kindly picked up and stored at the concierge desk beforehand. The front desk also gifted us a special Conrad teddy bear, which has now joined my daughter's toy collection.
3. Breakfast was a good experience. While the variety wasn't extensive, the presentation and taste were quite good. Many dishes looked tempting enough to try. Adults, of course, wouldn't be foolish enough to overeat, but at least there were some new breakfast items that made me keen to return and try them later. We didn't have dinner at the hotel; we went out to a local restaurant, which turned out to be a poor experience. If I visit Jiuzhaigou again, I'll definitely choose the hotel's restaurant.
4. I personally found the soundproofing to be excellent. There were other guests in the adjacent room, but I didn't hear any noise late at night.
5. The mini-bar and complimentary bottled water in the room met the expected standards for a hotel of this caliber.
**Areas for Improvement:**
1. The room did have a slight old-fashioned smell. The first thing we did upon entering was open the windows and doors for ventilation. Perhaps various methods could be considered to keep the room feeling fresh.
2. The wardrobe experience wasn't great. Given its cramped interior, the door should be able to push open and stay in place. This would improve both access to items and air quality inside. Currently, once the door is closed, it feels almost claustrophobic. Also, a lot of force is required to move the door, which might be difficult for an average woman.
3. The complimentary fruit looked fantastic, very appealing, but the actual taste varied greatly. The pear was sweet and juicy, making us eager to try the other fruits. However, the orange that followed was completely tasteless, which instantly killed our interest in trying the rest of the fruit.
Overall, I'd give it a 9 out of 10. In the future, I might consider returning for a few days, perhaps skipping the scenic spots and simply enjoying the hotel for a relaxing holiday.
