Hotel Gyllene Uttern

Nice little hotel overlooking the lake. Unfortunately the service provided at the restaurant was not fantastic. In the restaurant, we waited for about 15min before there was a staff who came to serve us. She brought us to a table, however we wanted a table by the window as we saw there were some empty tables where guests had left earlier. She said the restaurant was full and we could not get one, we pointed to those empty tables and said we could wait. She did not look very pleased. After 5min, we got a table by the window. The same staff who showed us the table came to take our order, she was not smiling the whole time, and not helpful. We noticed none of the staff working in the restaurant were smiling or looked cheerful, they looked like they hated their job. Finally the staff who served us our dishes came to clear our plates, she asked how the food was and if we enjoyed, and she smiled and spoke in an upbeat tone (unfortunately we did not take her name). Shouldn’t your staff be a little more cheerful and smile to guests since you are in the service industry? Something perhaps you the management can look into, a little smile goes a long way to make your guests’ experience pleasant.

I loved my stay here on a beautiful summer day. Great place for walks, view nature, gorgeous views of the lake Vättern. The breakfast was amazing and I took the opportunity to hike down to the lake for a dip. GORGEOUS

The main building of the Gyllene Uttern looks like a Scandinavian castle. Perched high above Lake Vättern, it has a grand view of the lake, whether from a large terrace, one of its several lounging spaces, a glassed-in dining room, or from rooms facing the lake. It also has a baronial dining room, in which the very good breakfast buffet is laid out. We dined there in the evening, as well, and the food was excellent. We enjoyed comfortable suites overlooking the lake. The one disadvantage is that the old, castle-like hotel does not have an elevator, which made carrying up luggage a challenge, especially as we three couples were of ages 60 to 82. There was no indication of staff to assist with the luggage, which is the reason I gave "Staff & Service" 4 stars instead of 5. It has two newer two-story auxiliary buildings, which do have elevators. We have stayed in these before. The rooms are very comfortable, but not as charming as staying in a pseudo castle.

Traditional Swedish hotel with great breakfast and burgers at dinner. Rooms clean and quiet. Beds could be better. Staff excellent

Beautiful hotel. Room was nice and modern. Clean. Great views. Enjoyed my stay and would stay again.
