Homely pension run by Carl and Wakana, who cook delicious and healthy meals. Located just outside Zao Onsen, once-in-life time experiences can be arranged and led by Carl - snow shoeing, trekking to icefalls, hiking to extraordinary shrines. And all with Carl’s Scottish sense of humour!

We had a wonderful time with Carl. Never a dull moment at Brown Pension. From the warm hospitality that both Carl and Wakana provided, we had enjoyed a fantastic 6 nights with them. Wakana is an excellent chef, pampering us with her own unique dishes every day. And Carl is so full of energy and always carrying a positive vibes when he played host to us.
Together, they have both done an excellent job in maintaining a very well kept cottage. Definitely a must stay if you want to head over to Zao Ski Region.

Outstanding hospitality with excellent food, long trail guiding, evening massages arranged, comfy beds and chauffeur driven everywhere. Carl and his family did everything to make our stay exactly as we wanted it.

I was part of a group of 6 ladies that stayed at Pension Brown and it was a truly fun and memorable experience. Carl and Wakana san are delightful hosts and no attention to detail was spared. Carl shuttled and guided us around Zao while Wakana san prepared us the most amazing, indulgent food. Thank you for the laughs and your warm hospitality - we will never forget our stay with you!
