Are you tired with hot and humid in Tokyo? If so, you'd better take Shinkansen to Karuizawa. Koya Backpackers is the best choice for budget travelers. It is located close to Hoshino resort, around 10 minutes' walk from Tombo no Yu bus stop. The owner is a mountain guide, and you can ask him how to enjoy trekking in Karuizawa area. You can walk trails to Shiraito waterfall, weather permitting. This guest house is old Japanese style, tiny but clean rooms make you relax and bring a time to think about old Japanese lifestyle. Shared shower, toilet, kitchen, fridge and washing machine are available. While I stayed, the owner and guests were very friendly, and I enjoyed chatting with them. I will come back again.
