We arrived after a direct flight from Heathrow to male and a very well organised connection from male to dhalu airport followed by a 15 min boat ride to the riu. We arrived around 11 am and we we were both absolutely shattered and disappointed that we were unable to access our room until 230 pm. However we had come prepared with swim stuff in hand luggage. We were in room 216 sunset side top floor. Absolutely perfect. Fab air conditioning, plenty of space, large bathroom with rain shower however not much pressure so a bit disappointing. We did report but not much improvement. Whole resort is fabulous, fantastic service. Had a problem with one of the a la cartes and manager suli contacted us the following day and rectified this. Krystal was lovely we weren't overly struck by the Japanese. The food in the main buffet was absolutely fabulous and so much choice that we did not bother with any more a la cartes. Service. Oh my goodness the service is amazing from bar staff to restaurant staff they cannot do enough for you. Aminda, poonam and James were fab always remembered our names and drinks. Nilan and melisha in the restaurant really looked after us as did all the staff but these two really stood out. They are both a credit to riu and nilan I hope will be promoted soon. That young man is dedicated to making the guests happy he certainly always made me smile. We certainly missed them both on our last day as it was their day off and we certainly noticed the difference in service. The Palace is lovely it is spotlessly clean and such a chilled vibe. We wandered over to the atoll side a few times and absolutely hated it. It felt like butlins not my vibe at all. My husband used the gym on a regular basis. However he said for a 5 star hotel he would expect one to be on the Palace side with a bit more entertainment I.e aqua aerobics and just actually to see some of the entertainment staff. He asked on several occasions about yoga sessions and no clear answer was given. The Palace is beautiful. Not the best reef but plenty to see whilst snorkelling. We spent the majority of time on the beautiful beach. I would say however for a 5 star hotel the sun beds were extremely uncomfortable. We had a lovely two weeks with fab service, food and drink. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel at a low end budget this is a nice hotel for what you pay. However we would not return as would like to try an authentic maldivian island next time instead of a brand. All in all we had a fab time.
