Hotel is in quiet location on the outskirts of town. Plenty of parking and easy to find. Staff are friendly and seem to work very hard. Sadly the rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment and after a month of staying here for two nights per week I need a break. The beds are very creaky and if you move I the night will wake you up, with incredibly hard mattresses and paper thin duvets. They have a very old storage heater you can switch on and some have a fan in the wardrobe. Some rooms have a fridge, some don’t, no standardised approach to this and if you do have one, they have seen better days. Bathrooms are dated but spotlessly clean, decent water pressure and plenty of clean towels. They do offer room service, but you can only find the menu on the TV, can’t order via TV and reception seem to struggle with understanding what you are actually requesting. Would be much easier to actually put a hard copy menu in each room & have orders taken but Bar or Restaurant rather than reception. If you manage to order good, it’s okay, nothing special and is clearly “easy prep” for the kitchen. It won’t be winning any awards for gastronomical excellence any time soon and I do wonder the thought process for microwaving a burger when you’re charging nearly £20 for it. Also every order I have received has had something missing, usually a condiment or part of the meal! They offer online checkin & digital keys but you still have you stop at reception to checkin manually & get a physical key so it makes the whole online checkin process a totally pointless exercise. The hotel also seems to resemble a college campus in the evening as it seems like local companies have their apprentices staying in in this hotel. This brings lots of noise, rowdiness and slamming of bedroom doors. Also you have to walk through a haze of vape smoke past a hoard of youths to enter the hotel after 6pm. Over all it’s okay for a night, but I’ve reached the point after spending 8 nights there in the past 4 weeks I want to stay somewhere else with less creaky beds, warmer rooms & less youths loitering at the entrance.
