Coral Reef at Key Biscayne

The smoke alarm low battery went off every night at 2 am making for a poor night’s sleep. They changed the battery but it was still broken. No one is there working on Saturdays to address issues.

This property is perfectly located if you love the beach, park, and shopping all within a walkable distance.

The photos online show a beautiful place, with loft bedrooms. But the reality is sadly different. The first thing I noticed was the old rusty lamps outside the rooms, the flimsy front doors and the badly painted areas. And that was before we entered the room. The room was very old, unloved and very tatty. The furniture was badly marked and the sofa bed was massively stained. Worse, the floors were dirty! It looks like whomever cleans does not bother with areas behind the toilet or staircase. There was food crumbs next to the cooker. The oven dish was covered in dried in burnt on particles. There was a balcony but it was inaccessible. A piece of wood is used to keep the patio door from opening. But the roll-down blinds only go up half way and stop you from going out. There are lamps and lights in the room, but all had missing bulbs. The whole room was painted in white but someone touched up the walls with a mid sheen paint on flat paint, so there are spots all over the place. The location of the hotel us great. There is beach access about 100m from the building. There are shops etc just up the road. One thing I would warn about is the Toll to get onto the Key. We rented a car and found that we could not access Biscayne Key without going through a Pay-By-Plate, which our rental car didn't have. So we are now facing extra bills for just getting to the hotel. It's a pity there is no contact from the hotel before visiting to inform visitors. All in all, I won't stay here again. The place needs some money spent and more care given to the rooms.

These are more like apartment/inns, and the condition of my room, at least, was not great. Lights didn't work, and the place wasn't clean when I arrived. Reception wasn't open (it was late) and the room was just open with the keys on the table - not particularly safe or secure. Only stay here if you absolutely must.

Great price for an awesome location. A block from the beach, parks and stores. Big suites and clean. Friendly staff.

It's been going downhill for a longtime, and now bottomed out-- it has officially entered "a dump" status.

great stay - staff member was really helpful. We had a 2 bed apartment - kitchen facilities were fine, location was good and there was access to the beach which was nice. Having 2 bathrooms was an absolute bonus - especially with 2 showers that were good. Negatives was pool wasn't heated and was freezing - it's the only place we stayed that this was the case.

I was honestly nervous for our trip to Coral Reef at Key Biscayne after reading some of the reviews. But it is what it is The GOOD: cheaper than most around the areas, great location close to beach, full kitchen, enough space for me and my kids, pool, walking distance to grocery and restaurants, short drive to the parks on either ends of the island. THE BAD: It’s an older property, basic beds, furniture and amenities. Not the cleanest (mold on the bathroom door and shower ) rust around some of the windows, could use a rug or some decor improvements.

This property has to be removed from your list. It is a dangerous place. Please don’t list, it causes grave danger to decent families. Please please remove this property from list.
