My booking was cancelled 2 days before I was due to stay......Because our room is being given to refugees..... And they are’nt even from Ukraine...… And they could'nt even be honest about it.... I was told by another Hotel in the same area... Unfortunately, Gainsborough House Hotel can't accommodate you on the dates of your booking due to unforeseen circumstances. Disgusting way to treat customers

Having booked this hotel for a long weekend for 14 persons we get a message that all bookings have now been cancelled. On calling the hotel we were told they were closing for refurbishment. In the meantime I found out they are not closing but now housing migrants and will no longer be accepting public bookings. We now have 4 venues booked locally and no accommodation for the weekend, which means those 4 venues look like losing our custom.

This hotel had the potential to be decent - it certainly looks nice from the outside - but there were too many niggly things about it which made the stay not one to remember. The room was fine but there was a noisy air-con unit that wouldn't fall silent even after being turned off. Then there was no shampoo, only shower gel. And even after asking reception for some we were just given more shower gel. The following morning, after we'd been told that breakfast was until 10.30 (I think - it could've been 9.30) anyway with 10mins ago until it ended we received a phonecall in our room brusquely asking if we were coming to breakfast or not! When we went in it turned out we were the only ones left to eat, and were seated right next to all the breakfast buffet, while the two remaining staff stood next to us making toast and chatting - would've been so nice to have had a table elsewhere in the sizeable room. Didn't have a knife & fork either, and it wasn't obvious where the plates were. So a frustrating experience all in all and won't be back in a hurry.

I tried to book a weekend for myself and sister next feb for our birthdays to be told no restaurant but they could recomend places to go and eat what a load of Rubbish What no restaurant to have food The gentleman on the phone was rude and very unlelpful Obviously didn't want us there I really wouldn't even recommend this hotel May look nice but service is awful

We stayed at this hotel as we were attending a wedding locally. It was also a treat for my birthday. The room was awful! Dated, shabby and very dirty. The wall paper was peeling off the wall and nasty stains on the carpet. The rooms do not look like the photos. The room was cold and had a small old portable radiator. The bathroom ceiling light was old dirty with bulbs missing. The towel rail was chipped and there were hardly any towels left for us. It was an expensive disappoin**ent. I bought up my concerns with management who said there was nothing that could be done.

Several of us stayed at the Gainsburough who were attending A wedding at the safari park. Staff were pleasant, room was basic and clean. Bathroom was modern and good. Breakfast buffet was very good. I'm sorry there are some negative reviews on here, we were all very satisfied. Loads of parking spaces on the large car park. An overall positive experience was had by all of us there for bed and.Breakfast .

Myself and my partner stayed here for two nights because we were visiting for a wedding, when we arrived in the room it smelled very stale and there was barely any light, our “view” was an external wall of the hotel so barely any natural light came in at all which made it very dingy. The hotel is very run down, not like the website. The image I’ve attached is of the remote, absolutely filled with dirt, absolutely disgusting. With covid still lingering to see this made us very worried and made us therefore worry how poorly the rest of the room might have been cleaned. Lastly, when we returned to the hotel from the wedding around half 10 there was a function going on downstairs and they were blaring music, I assumed it wouldn’t finish at 11pm. When it didn’t my boyfriend rang reception and they told us it would be finished at 12. We couldn’t sleep at all, I think it’s terrible that when booking this hotel you aren’t told when a function is taking place and that you won’t be able to sleep until late. For all these reasons, we won’t be returning.

We both want to thank everyone for the most amazing day. The food was outstanding and we had so many compliments on the buffet. From start to finish nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Tim you outdid yourself this time.What a fantastic Master of ceremonies and we couldn’t of wished for a better person to be there and support us. Once again Thankyou and we will definitely be recommending you for weddings xx
