Really unique experience . Very isolated and amazing scenery. After a day exploring the area it was lovely to come back to home made cake and tea and relax in the lovely warm lounge. As a previous review has said, it is like being in an Agatha Christie novels surrounding, The highlight for my friend Chris and I was the evening meal, served around a table where all the guests sat and talked. Really was so enjoyable , and the food was superb. The owners, Adrian and Eva really are the most amazing hosts and I was sad to leave. However, I will always have a part of the Garvault with me. As a T-totaler , due to an alcohol allergy, Adrian recommended a soft drink called Gunners from the bar which was fantastic, just ordered two cases for Christmas 🎄. Would recommend a stay without hesitation.

Second visit. Came in March for 2 days, this time for 7, We had a superb time. Managed to get out everyday and go for a walk without rain every day which was amazing given the storms further south. Brilliant food. Ollie even cooked up the wild mushrooms I found. Field mushrooms, porcine, orange birch boletus an puffball. So cozy friendly and welcoming. It was also great to mingle with the other guests and it was such a great feeling that we would be staying there that long. Great to meet Adrian and Eva who weren’t there last time. They were lovely. Shame Zack was away, he was a hoot last time. Our dog was also really well looked after, she thought it was home by the end. Thanks ever so much and we’ll be back. James (AKA Jim)Alison and Milou

I really apologise for not reviewing before. In my defence I did, however it was on booking. Com which was not the right place. I can assure you it was brilliant. They sent me a reminder which is why I did. We stayed in March for 2 nights which was brilliant. It included my birthday and that got really well treated. The place is fantastic. So much so that we are going back for a whole week in October. I can’t wait

Great location and hosts ! Bed was comfy and views were amazing from top floor en-suite room. Food was innovative as supplies must be challenging. Eating refectory style was fun but tables for 2 were also made available. Local outings were easy once you had found the hotel location ie Durness and the fabulous Cocoa Mountain !.

We chose Garvault House because of it's location and we weren't disappointed: it is simply beautiful and stunning. The house is quirky and interesting, filled with books and objects collected from all over the world. From the warm welcome until our departure all the staff were friendly and attentive. The bar was well stocked with a choice of bottled beers and the wine choices, though small, were varied. The selection of whisky was amazing. The food was simple and there was no choice, which I had known when booking. All 8 guests ate together and we had a really convivial evening including a few whiskies in the bar after dinner. Breakfast was really good with delicious porridge followed by gorgeous scrambled eggs with bacon, all cooked by Olly. Lovely coffee and great homemade jams.

For a place in the middle of nowhere we thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay. Rather than quiet tables for two the communal dining arrangement leads to interesting chats with the other guests. I would recommend a visit. Next time we would go when there are dark skies.

When I planned to cycle the NC500 The Garvault was always going to be a place to stay. I wasn’t disappointed it’s really like staying in an Agatha Christy Novel. All the Staff are brilliant. This is a very Unique place to stay In wonderful surroundings.

Well, what can I say...firstly I was not expecting the Garvault Lodge to be so remote, beautiful, peaceful and surprising. Ollie made us all so welcome, he is a great guy and can't do enough for you. We stayed in the bothy and absolutely loved it, had everything you could need. The location...wow!! Off grid style living at its finest. And if that wasn't enough...we had the Garvault bar, which is basically a pub...perfect! Thanks to all the workaway guys helping out they were so accommodating and friendly. We'll be back...James, Jim, Kenny and Simon aka the bikers.
