So first of all, when we first got there, a pack of peanuts was open on our desk so that should tell you how well the rooms were cleaned and checked. They say they aren't doing housekeeping because of Covid, but we ALL know it's a money saving thing. No other hotel is doing that. I live in Italy right now, where they take Covid WAY more seriously (vaccines/negative Covid test AND masks are required to stay in them) and every hotel still has housekeeping services. You can't act unconcerned when it comes to requiring masks in public spaces and then say it's too dangerous for the housekeepers to clean the room. It was annoying to have to go to them for clean towels after a few days. Now It feels weird to rate a hotel so low because of their Internet, but here we are. My husband and I were visiting from overseas, which means if we didn't have Wifi, we didn't have Internet. Period. So the first day we were there, the wifi that required a password didn't come up in our options, so we just went with the public one. After a few days, we were apparently locked out of it. So we go to the staff. They were NOT helpful. The front desk person basically said that sometimes the wifi didn't work in the rooms (ridiculousness!) and that if we wanted to use it, we had to come out to the lobby. Really?? That made me so upset. Then when my husband pushed, we were given a customer service number for some random company that handles wifi for numerous hotels. The people on that line required us to give them the IP address of our devices so they could manually allow us permission to use the public wifi. It was so outrageous that we couldn't use the wifi in our rooms and that we had to go to THAT much trouble. We were planning on staying here a week later, but I canceled and we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express instead. MUCH better hotel.

Should I start with the burn holes in the blanket on the bed? The intense mold smell of the room when I walked in? Or maybe the way Cathy at the front desk does not even acknowledge one's presence when they walk into the front desk area? I get it, everyone is busy, but she could at least say hello and that she'd be right with you. When I told the front desk about the intense mold smell and asked if they had any Lysol I could borrow to try and mitigate it, they told me they are not allowed to use Lysol! Funny since Lysol states ON THE LABEL that it kills coronavirus, and we all know that it can clear mold and mildew. The mold was so bad it was on the bathroom door. Black mold. They offered to change my room, but instead I went and bought my own Lysol, treated the room and left for hours. When I came back and opened the door it was a little better, so I slept in the room. However in the morning the mold smell was back in full force. Also, be aware that at around 9:00 (check out time is 11:00) housekeeping will knock on your door LOUDLY. As a veteran traveling with a service dog, it scared both of us. I asked them if they would not do that the next day so they suggested I put the ”do not disturb” sign on the door and don't open the window curtain all the way. So I put the DND sign on my doorknob the next morning and the window curtain was open a few inches, but definitely not fully open (I took photos and videos of all of this I am writing about). Went out at 9am for breakfast, came back at 9:30 and my door was standing OPEN. Not just unlocked, but open. Still had food and clothes in there so I went down to the front desk to ask what was up. The housekeeping said ”your curtain was open.” I asked to be sure ”is checkout time 11:00?” Yes, she said, so I asked her why she ignored the do not disturb sign and the curtain being at least 7/8 of the way closed. She was arguing with me when the NICE LADY from the laundry area interjected and told her that she needed to just apologize, while Cathy told her she's not to argue with the customers. Very Stressful. NICE THINGS: It is very quiet and safe and it does not have people hanging out in the parking lots at all hours or smoking cigarettes in front of your room like many of the other hotels in this area. There are many truckers who stay here and they are very respectful, much moreso than the construction workers at this and other hotels in the area. It seemed like the truckers were just there to sleep, not to come to a hotel and party like they are still in high school, which is what I witnessed from the construction workers at the other hotels where I tried to stay in this area. They need to seriously clean the floors (I wiped up a little bit of spilled water with a napkin and it was black) and update the blankets and bedding.

I am local here in Kingsland, even work in hospitality management myself down on Amelia. A few nights ago, I got home from work (At nearly 1AM, life of hospitality!) to find that my AC was broken. My house was nearly 90 degrees! No way I could sleep at home, so I started looking around for somewhere relatively cheap to spend the night. I drove to the country inn and suites as my parents stayed there previously. Absolutely not, the clerk was on her phone when I got there- one of my own pet peeves. I made my way over to this property, and Robin at the front desk absolutely made my night. Typical night auditors are irritated by anyone needing anything- but not Robin. She was up to the task with a smile and wonderful energy. She offered me the best flexible rate and a late check out complimentary! This is exactly what I needed after a long week at my front desk. She reminded me of why I love what I do! The room was immaculately clean and comfortable. This chain hotel has a soul that runs deep.
