Had dinner here after a long days walk. The food was good, a reasonable choice of dishes, the ones we had were well cooked and good portions. The service was very friendly and welcoming, with a good ambience allowing hikers to chat about their days experience.

Lovely atmosphere, great people and food was as good as it gets. They always welcome you. Very genuine people, this shows from the service, food and atmosphere.. what’s not to like!? Have been coming here for over a year now and just wish I lived closer, so I could enjoy myself and a have a wine or two.. instead of driving.

Full of character and with a nice buzz, it was a pleasure to stop here for a couple of nights. Service good, food pretty good. The bedroom was small for 2 adults sharing who aren't a couple. They hadn't prepared the room with twin beds on arrival but it was soon sorted.

A very friendly welcome from the landlord and a free half pint at the end of our Pennine Way walk. Evening meal and breakfast were very good, with good service. Our room was excellent too. Thoroughly recommended!

Stayed for one night while walking St Cuthbert’s Way. Hotel reception and the small room next to the bar definitely need smartening up. The rooms were fine, relatively spacious, clean and comfortable. Food in the evening was fine, and service was efficient. Breakfast was good and they made a good packed lunch with a variety of choices (orderin advance). Staff seemed overworked, but they retained a smile. It worked for a one night stay on a walking holiday, I don’t think it would work for a week.

Stayed here for one night whilst walking the St Cuthberts Way and this was most certainly a very welcoming venue after a long day walking. Warmly greeted by staff and quickly checked into our room.We had dinner here and our food choices were very good supported by some great beer .Room was fine and had all that one needs for a comfortable stay.Breakfast was fab with all the usual choices and lots of it .We ordered a packed lunch for our next days walk ,various choices and very welcoming after a long day on the hills. All in all we loved his place and hope to return.

We looked at the reviews and pictures shown on Bookings. Com to help with our decision to book this hotel. We were extremely disappointed when we arrived. The hotel was extremely dated and needs a refurbishment . The room was very dated and a lot of things were wrong with the room. The bathroom door did not close and numerous lights were out in the bathroom. The room itself had a window that opened into a corridor so no fresh air could come into the room. The floors creaked unbelievably. There was a mirror in the room but no plug sockets near to be able to use a hairdryer . Furniture needed to be moved to access sockets . We ordered beef Sunday dinners from the restaurant which we felt was quite expensive at £18. The meal had no flavour and a large mushroom as part of the meal. I have never had mushrooms in a Sunday roast . The beef was extremely rare with blood coming out of the meat when cutting it . This actually out me off the meal ! The meat had so much fat attached to it which again put us off. We ordered breakfast for 8.30 the next day but because of our experience with the Sunday roast we did not stay to have it . Would not recommend this hotspot at all. The only good thing about the hotel are the friendly staff.
