Went for sunday lunch as not been for a while . Place reminded me of being back at saddle room in middleham all equine themed (wonder where they got them ideas from) Beef was first class although couldnt say the same about the vegetables we had one slice of carrot between us and the rest were bland and pale. Was it worth £19 !!! I would say not ,very overpriced for what we got. Bit disappointed!!

Wonderful stay at the Black Horse Inn. Lots of attention to detail in the rooms - kids loved their curly wurly and hot chocolate as did the adults. Staff very friendly and food was yummy. Would definitely recommend to anyone and we will certainly be coming back.

We booked an over night stay here for 7th April. Upon arrival we instantly loved the a**osphere, buzzing with families eating Sunday lunch and people out having a couple of drinks. We were instantly welcomed with beaming smiles from Frankie and Mark offering us a drink. We were shown to the check in desk and again welcomed by a lovely member of staff, we didn’t catch her name unfortunately. We checked in and were shown our room, the room had a horse theme and was called Arkles. It was tastefully decorated and very spacious. The smell of brand new carpets was the first thing we noticed. The room was fully equipped with bathrobes, towels, additional blankets, coffee machine, kettle, ironing facilities. A lovely touch of curly wurley’s too. We went into the bar for a drink, there was plenty to choose from. Bar snacks were available such as a variety of different style chips as well as crisps and nuts. We didn’t try these as we were booked in for Sunday lunch. The Sunday lunch was beautiful, I had a trio of meats and my husband went for the beef. There was plenty of veg, a Yorkshire pudding and mountains of gravy. Our waitress Lily was outstanding, great service with a smile and checked in regularly to ensure we were ok. We then found out that she was only 14!! For a young girl she was a hard worker and very professional. Then came night, the beds and pillows were so comfy! A great nights sleep had by us both. Breakfast was amazing! Plenty to choose from eggs Benedict, eggs florentine, scrambled egg and salmon etc. there was fruit, cereal and toast also available. We chose to have the full Yorkshire breakfast. I’m not usually a fan of this type of breakfast but it was delightful, very tasty! Again the same person that checked us in the previous day also served us breakfast. A lovely member of staff making sure everything was perfect for our breakfast. The owner also came over and made conversation. If you are ever in this area, this place is an absolute must to stay! It truly is a 5 star establishment.

Myself, my husband and our friend had 2 lovely rooms for two nights over Easter. The accommodation was homely: the rooms are named after horses, Black Bess had an eclectic Indian feel with some kitsch decor and fantastic outside furniture for sunny spring/summer days.. Tiger Roll was more feminine. We didn’t intend doing, so, but ended up eating in the restaurant both evenings. Food was great and staff even better. Place was ‘rammed’ and we were not in a rush and enjoyed the leisurely pace. Between the three of us we tried 6 starters and 6 mains (one veggie in our party), we enjoyed everything… breakfasts too: small selection of pastries and fresh fruit/yoghurts and great cooked to order breakfast faire. Main thanks go to ALL of the staff tho, no ‘starch’ stuffy service here, but friendly banter and heartfelt suggests for everything inc. days out and about. Thanks especially to Jessie who made our stay.

We visited to celebrate a birthday on Monday night & we were very disappointed with the service. Our table wasn’t set up for the number of people (we’d booked in advance), the staff had to get another chair from somewhere. It took ages for our drinks order to be taken and then again for our food order to be taken. The menu was disappointing & not what is on the website, so this needs updating to avoid others been disappointed like we were. The menu is mainly overpriced pub grub. The jukebox burger isn’t well presented & could do with some salad rather than just serving it with chips. We ordered more drinks & the female staff member plonked my wine on the table, I’m surprised the stem on the glass didn’t break. We ordered 3 desserts & they took ages to arrive & when they did the staff member stated they’d taken a while to arrive as the meringue is made to order. This isn’t our first visit to the Black Horse. We’ve visited many times over the years & have always had a pleasant experience but last night was very different. The menu choice is disappointing & overpriced, the front of house staff need to improve on their customer service & look like they want to be at work. We won’t be in a hurry to return, which is a shame as we’ve always rated it really highly & it’s always one of our first choices to visit for a meal.

We stopped off at The Black Horse Inn on the last leg of our motor home trip back from Scotland. It is located close to the A1 and easily accessible for large vehicles. The beer was spot on, food was nice and the a**osphere in the pub was relaxing but also lively. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The motor home stop over was free and included Electric hook, it was very peaceful and we had a lovely night. I would highly recommend this place and we’ll definitely be stopping again when passing.
