"The property is located just opposite the train station. We arrived at 9:30 am, did the check-in procedure, and then left luggage there so that we were luggage-free when we went on hiking on one of the section of the Nakasendo. We did not have to explain, the host simply accepted our luggage gracefully.
The breakfast and dinner were delicious. The host and staff were very polite and helpful. Some of the staff spoke very good English and explained to us the different types of sauces for each dish.
I think the facilities could be made better with some simple adjustments.
The room was a bit small, we knew that when we made booking. However, I think the room could be more roomly if not so many furnitures were put in the room.
The public bath room was small. If someone is having a shower, the water could easily splash into the bath water and persons sitting in the bath. I suggest the host to change the male and female baths into 2 private baths, allowing prior booking each time for 40 min. Booking can easily be done by self-service.
With these minor adjustments, the stay could be more enjoyable."
"Stayed at the annex wing tatami style. Rooms are reasonably big and in clean and pristine condition. Our package came with half board and the breakfast and dinner buffet were wide spread and delicious with both continental and Japanese dishes. Soba noodles were served between 9.30 to 11pm. At the lobby, there was a 24 hour snacks counter with unlimited flow of wine, beer, coffee/tea and cookies. The outdoor onsen was good too."
"Decided to stay here as part of my Nakasendo hike. Nice, clean hotel. The dinner was amazing, and breakfast buffet is free for all guests. No private showers, but that's okay in Japan. It's quite a walk from the station however, about 10-15mins."
"Hotel room is pretty decent, however there is only public toilet and bathroom. The microwave is not as clean as it should be. Ryokan is actually pretty far to walk from the station, and does not have convenience store or much restaurant nearby. However, it can be a pretty good pit-stop for backpackers/long distance trekkers to rest in. I will recommend people who is visiting this ryokan to either use the bus service(apparently there is a bus to and from the ryokan to the station), or to drive in. Prepare food in advance if you did not reserve an meal. Peaceful place to chill in tho :)"
"This place is amazing! It was quiet, clean, and comfortable with an amazing Japanese public bath! The staff is very helpful, speaks English and the hotel is located in a beautiful valley with rivers and forests!! The hotel has a restaurant, massage chairs, microwave, machines for drinks, etc. We will come back!!"
"The staff really went above and beyond to make two ignorant Canadian tourists feel extremely welcome at a traditional Japanese Ryuken. Though there was a small language barrier, we never felt that we could not communicate our needs. The hot and cold onsen was very refreshing after walking post towns along the Nakasendo Way. The river next to the hotel made for a relaxing experience and deep sleep. Somehow, I missed the option when booking to select the dinner option, there is really no other food options in the area, and the clerk (owner) said he would put a 'simple meal' together for us for a small charge which we found acceptable. The kaiseki that followed was some of the best and most authentic Japanese food we experienced in our two weeks in Japan. The woman serving us was an absolute gem and the cat that ran the establishment was adorable. Our room was very comfortable and had a nice sitting area with a view of the river.
Only points of contention would be that that it's a little out of the way if you don't have a car, but is conveniently accessable by bus with ~10 minute walk. The facilities are a little dated, the onsen is discoloured, but I assume that is from the natural minerals. There was a stale smell (smoke) in the rooms which is a bit off-putting to non-smokers. It would appear smoking is allowed in the facility which might be a plus to some."
"Het hotel ligt afgelegen aan het eind van een weg die de bergen in leidt. Prachtig uitzicht, rust, vogelgeluiden. Zeer gastvrije gastheer, die 's avonds een heerlijk diner bereidt. De volgende ochtend een prima ontbijt. Eenvoudig hotel, relatief ruime kamer, zeer kleine badkamer. Half-pension. "
"Our car was stuck outside of the hotel due to heavy snow, one of the hotel staff was extremely helpful to clear snow on the road and helped us drive the car back to the hotel, we were so grateful for his help otherwise we dunno how long would it take for us to make the car move again. He was so worry about us as there were also heavy snow on our departure day, he escorted us down to the mountain to make sure we are safe. All of the staff were so nice, food was fantastic! Probably one of the best hotel experience we have ever had. We reli enjoy the time there!"
