The Fortress Resort and Spa

A fantastic hotel right on the beach, with an fabulous infinitely pool. The service was amazing, and the food in the hotel was excellent. I enjoyed the massage in the spa so much that I had another one the next day. I will definitely return.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay immensely. The service was excellent, staff were very helpful, always with a smile and friendly. 100/100 for food, we enjoyed every single dish that we had! Extremely spacious pool area and the views are to die for. Will most definitely visit again. One thing they could improve on is the maintenance of rooms.

My wife & I stayed at The Fortress for 11 nights. We go home tomorrow and don't want to! What an absolutely incredible hotel. I cannot recommend enough. They went above and beyond to make my wife's early 40th very special and make us feel very welcome. Tonight on our last night we had dinner in Duo (the wine cellar restaurant) and we were looked after like Royalty. Big shout out to Rohan who made the BEST Chilli Vili cocktails. If you like spice then this is a must try! The all inclusive was outstanding and included so much! The menu was so big for both food and drinks. The rooms are beautiful, we had the Ocean View room with a balcony and the beds were so comfy, best sleep I've ever had on a holiday. Thank you so much to all of you at The Fortress. Impeccable service and we will most definitely come and stay again!

Beautifully located hotel on the edge of the Indian Ocean, stunning architecture and amazing rooms. Staff were very friendly and professional, special thanks to Weerasinghe and Dilshani who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Food really well prepared and presented with a wide range of styles. A luxury way to end a trip! Would definitely recommend.

A beautiful setting with really gorgeous rooms. Peace and tranquillity in abundance. Fabulous menu and all delicious. The most incredible dosas! Gluten free heaven for rice flour dosa made fresh by Khan. So so good! Great gym and spa, lovely pool and gorgeous beach with crashing waves, very therapeutic. All of the staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Particularly fond of Vishwa- such a gentleman and the perfect waiter…attentive but not overly so. The hotel shop was a little disappointing for such a luxurious hotel, but that is of no consequence. Just gorgeous hotel.

This hotel was built around 15 years ago. You would not know this looking at it. They did a good job making it look like an old colonial building. We had a beach room on the ground floor which gave easy access to everything. Rooms spacious and well thought through. Good facilities in the room. Bathroom very big. Good shower. Whilst I think they advertise 3 restaurants basically there is one. Red snapper is just a different part of the decked area and was not in use when we were there. There was ‘fine dining’ but this was just air conditioned. Having said this the food ( all inclusive) was excellent. Good choices of local and international. We did not have a bad meal. Drinks options also very good. Service was excellent. Sam looked after us well. He leads his team very well. Pool was good. Big, good depth. Nice deck area between the pool and sea. Plenty of loungers on the grass. Poole guys very helpful. There is easy access to the beach. Sand is nice but the beach is steep in parts, rocky in others and the waves are rough (April). Not much around the hotel but as we were all inclusive we did not want to go out to eat. Galle is 20mins away. We went in by bus which is easy to do. Out of the gate turn left. 200m down is the bus stop. There are buses to Galle and Colombo. Get the Galle one and then no issue knowing when to get off. Get on and pay 100rp each. The gift shop on site was good. We bought 3 paintings. Not cheap but good to support local artists. Guy in shop was very helpful. My wife used the Spa which she said was very good. Average trea**ent cost for a hotel So why 4 not 5 out of 5. It is a very good hotel. We had a great time. Very solid 4. I felt some parts were looking a little tired. The decking, lounger cushions (although we did see some getting changed), couple of loungers we used were at end of life, parasols .. just little things. There was some minor building work being done around the pool. Blue hoses across the decking. Grass areas were being repaired which included pounding to flatten. Given it was almost season end, this may be why things were looking tired. I think the maintenance work should have been left to off season. These are observations and certainly not complaints. Just justifying why 4 out of 5. Summary - thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would visit again

I went with my husband and 2 year old daughter to stay at The Fortress Resort and Spa. We loved every minute of it. The location and views are stunning, the food was delicious, the room was big and very well maintained with the most comfy, huge bed. I’m 8 months pregnant and they provided additional big pillows which allowed me to sleep so well. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. In addition, the hotel was very child friendly, everyone knew my daughter’s name and she enjoyed playing in the kids club, where the lady was excellent at playing with her. Overall, we had a fantastic stay.

Great hotel. This place is paradise and they think of everything. The food is incredible, the staff are friendly and immediately onto any issues - not that there are any. We had a large upstairs sea view room with our young son - the fold out sofa was great for him. Location is nice and a scenic tuk tuk to everything you need in Galle.
