Giannoulis – Cavo Spada Luxury Sports & Leisure Resort & Spa

From the moment we arrived, until we left 2 weeks later, the staff were fantastic. From the cleaners, to the managers, all were very friendly, helpful and considerate. The food was plenty full, fresh and lots of choices. And the two separate restaurants offering al a carte dining were excellent. Not forgetting the special nights, sea food special, bbq, and Italian. All excellent. The hotel was spacious and clean. Plenty of sun beds by the pool, and by the sea, and plenty of room around.

This is the second time I have visited Cavo Spada but this time I was a solo traveller. Although I loved all aspects of my stay, the highlight for me was the staff. The staff at the hotel are all lovely - especially the girls working in the bar at night who were all so friendly and kept me entertained every evening. I'm sure I will be back again in future!

This is a large, somewhat remote hotel, approximately 2 miles from the village of Kolymbari. The rooms are spacious but a little dated and drab (in my opinion). The swimming pool is large and relatively shallow , reassuring if you have young children. The hotel is extremely clean and the food is varied and good. However, there is a large BUT. Despite the fact we were all inclusive, there are many extras. Just to visit the Italian restaurant there is a minimum charge of 36 euros per couple, the fish and BBQ nights are priced even more highly. In every hotel I have visited, speciality evenings are part of the all inclusive experience. Even wrapped ice cream/lollies are extra. There is a coffee machine in the room but pods are only available at Reception at 2.50 euros each. Outrageous. There is a deposit for pool towels, most of which have seen better days. I don’t believe this is a true all inclusive hotel nor is there any mention of extra costs in the holiday information.

From the moment we set foot inside this Hotel, we were treated like VIPs, nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff. Reception staff were quite efficient, Bar staff were amazing (Christina, Galinni, Katerina, pool bar Panos and Georgina). The restaurant provided fantastic food and the Manager Antonis was superb. We'd thoroughly recommend this Hotel, one of the best holidays we've ever had and we travel a lot.

Great hotel, fantastic food , our room with pool access was really handy, lovely spacious room, nice big comfy bed, very clean! The gym is brilliant, my partner is very into fitness and visited each morning, they even opened it early for him! Beautiful area and the staff are absolutely amazing. Couldn’t want anything more! Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday.

We have chosen the hotel as the right solution for whom who love to stay in luxury hoten with quite area include private beach. It was excelent choice to us. Preffessional service, teasty meal (wide range of regional kitchen), really friendly staff ... I would recommend the hotel to all who need relax. BTW, big thank you to hotel´s manager for approach during solving our issues wth travel agency.

Overall we were very happy with our stay at the Cavo Spada. We stayed there for 1 week and had the standard all inclusive package. We booked the large family room which sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids. What makes this place great, besides the location, are the people that work there. They really have a team of great people. Room: Spacious, clean, with a patio. The kids room was separated by sliding doors, which gave us full privacy at night. Bathroom was nice and large with a separate bathtub and shower. Adult mattress was king size, a bit too stiff for us, but acceptable. The kids had a twin mattress each, and slept well. The AC in our room worked well, and was quiet. Overall the room was very quiet. The cleaning lady did a nice job each and every day. Food & Drinks: Comparing all our previous all inclusive holidays, this one so far was the best for food and drinks. Having a child with food allergies, we were able to find something for her without any troubles. They tried to have new dishes each day, so it did not get boring. The sea food was fresh and tasty, meats were also good, and the desserts were also very well prepared and presented. In terms of alcoholic beverages, they were well made and not watered down like at other places we have been. The dining and bar staff were all very friendly and nice. The pool bar staff always made my coffee extra strong. The bar and restaurant staff was awesome. Pool/Beach: The pool is huge and max depth of 110 cm, which made it safer for kids and those that don't know how to swim. Beach was also nice, but without swimming shoes it can be painful going in and out of the water. It is not a sandy beach, lots of stones. In general the beach and pool area were clean. Kids Club: Katerina was wonderful with our kids, which is why they went there many times to have fun. Room for Improvement: 1. Paid WiFi: Sorry, but this is year 2024 and we are in the EU. At the very least the WiFi in the lobby should be free of charge. 2. Paid in room safe: This is the first time I've been to a hotel where I had to pay for a safe in the room. 3. Paid Gym facility: First time I have seen this. Normally for spa services or extra facilities like tennis courts you pay extra, but for the use of the indoor gym was strange for me. 4. Free drinks at the bar for all inclusive end at 23:00. This was also a strange one for me, and never seen before. 5. Missing for me during arrival was an offer of a refreshing drink (water/juice). Most of us travelled for several hours to get there, and on a hot day it would be nice to be greeted with a refreshing drink.

The setting for this hotel is stunning. The beach although very rugged & pebbly was still very pretty. We loved the grassy area to sunbathe complete with some shade from the trees dotted around. The pool was amazing and perfect to cool off in. The atmosphere was peaceful, ideal to chill and relax. The bar staff were fabulous and friendly and the rooms although tired were clean and the maid service was excellent. One annoying thing was the there were no toilets by the bar area in the main hotel and you had to go down to the lower ground floor. We used the main buffet area and found the food to be very nice but not excellent. When we enquired if we could eat at the pool side restaurant we were told we would have to book and pay an extra 18 euros each to attend the barbecue. When we booked AI I did not expect to pay extra for anything and I refused on principle to pay an extra £45 euros per person per day to upgrade to ‘ultra’. Therefore we did not have the experience of eating in the poolside restaurant which was annoying and disappointing. We then booked the a la carte restaurant one evening and were told we had to pay an extra 18 euros each even if we only had water with our meal! This was explained to us after we had ordered our food. We did mention that we were not happy about this to the manager and he just fobbed us off by saying ‘we like to offer something extra to people’ As AI we were given house gin and spirits, we met another couple who were on the ‘ultra’ AI and there was a definite difference in the way they were treated compared to us. Having a late pick up we were unable to keep our room (I was prepared to pay the extortionate fee of 60 euros) so we asked where the hospitality room was and was told we had to use a shower in the toilets which were on the ground floor. No hairdryer or space to change in private. This was also mentioned to the manager whilst we were waiting to be picked up and he wasn’t really interested. The ‘ultra AI’ and the lack of hospitality on our last day are the reasons we will not be returning to this hotel. We felt there was an element of greed in charging for extra things which spoilt what could have been an amazing experience.
