I am 22 , female , solo travelling. I booked this hostel yesterday around 2pm, straight away I emailed the hostel to say I would be arriving late in the morning. I did not think this would be a problem as it says clearly they have a overnight reception. Admittedly, my flight was 2 hours delayed and instead of arriving at 1:30 am I arrived at 3:30 am . I get out the taxi and call the buzzer , no answer . Call the buzzer again, no answer . After about 15/20 minutes I ring the buzzer 5 times as I suspect night reception has fallen asleep. No problem. I am greeted with an aggressive voice, shouting at me for not having my key card, I explain I am checking in, without an apology I am begrudgingly told to âpull the door â . I drag my 24 kg suitcase up the stairs , no help, no offer for help, no greeting. Okay , I get it , sometimes we have long shifts, so I donât say anything and proceed with just trying to get to bed . The lady was scrolling through instagram as she was talking to me, and as she was apparently figuring out the card reader wasnât working . She finds a bed, tells me I donât have a card and opens the door to the dorm. âYour number is on the paperâ closes the door , leaves . Itâs pitch black and I donât want to wake people up, at the same time I need to find this apparent bed , with my light on low I start wondering through , there is no bed free and there is clearly someone in my bed. I inform the lady of this, she walks through , peering into peopleâs beds! We walk out, she scrolls her instagram and walks to check the other dorm. No bed. So she tells me, itâs my fault as I have not informed the hostel I would check in late. I show her the email, she tells me I did not inform the hostel my flight was late, apparently your room is up for grabs from the minute after you said youâd arrive. Apparently they sold my room between 1:30 am and 3:30 am. No apology, she smirks , and explains I will get the money back. I tell the lady that I donât care about the money, I have no where to stay and itâs 4 in the morning. She smirks again. At this point I lose my temper, Itâs almost been 24 hours without sleep for me and I am faced with possibly the rudest most unempathetic individual I have ever met . I rip up the paper with my room number on the floor, yes this was a mistake and something I would never normally do but I am extremely sleep deprived and angry . She then tells me she is calling the police for vandalism. After this she walks off, comes back issues my refund and tells me to leave. Right now I am writing this sat on the streets in a city I donât know. This is the worst experience of my trip so far . You wonât know from reading this review , but this is the first time I have ever lost my temper with a member of staff. In fact this is my first and probably only 1 star review .
