We were on a honeymoon in beautiful Telemark and chose to stay at this hotel because of the good reviews, but unfortunately we can't agree!
Because we had a dog with us, we had to pay an extra NOK 300 in cleaning fees and had to use a separate entrance at the back of the hotel. Our room was at the far end and there were clear marks on the door frame as the lock had been broken on a previous occasion. Not exactly a pleasant welcome to the room.
Old furnishings (radio mounted in the bedside table?!) and a TV that belongs to the pre-war era. Only NRK. The bathroom was by 2000s standards. For dinner we checked the menu on the terrace - NOK 300 for a burger and NOK 120 for a beer!!
Breakfast was served between 8:30-10 on Sunday and when we came to eat at 9, there was no coffee, juice, eggs and bacon.
Otherwise, check-in was after 4pm and we had to check out by 11am. Absolutely incredible to spend so much money on an overnight stay when the room was only for use for 19 hours and 1.5 hours to eat breakfast during the holiday on a Sunday. All in all a disappointing experience. I understand that the hotel wants to preserve the old style, but it's a nice balance between dated and classic.

At check-in, we were not given information about when dinner was, nor were we given information about when breakfast started the following day. It is becoming a bit of a tired hotel. Have been there a number of times, never received such bad service as now.

Although a little dated it is cozy and quaint with fantastic views of the lake and mountain across the street. Good buffet breakfast. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Relaxing and quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of any city/tourist.

Stort praktisk hotell! God frokost og uteservering i kveldsola! God seng, men rommet bar preg av 1990-tallet med acanthus og strietapet. Hotellet kunne med fordel ha byttet ut enkelte tepper og lenestoler. Uansett vi hadde et greit opphold.

Pleasant stay at Straand. The rooms are of a perfectly good standard, the common areas are nice, especially the old part. There was a buffet in the restaurant and it was very expensive and unfortunately not worth the money. Otherwise, a hotel right in the middle of the tree.

Spent night here in the Telemark area of Norway on our tour. This is a rustic family run hotel. It is on a very picturesque lake and has lots to do around it. Much outdoor activities to suit your content. Room was decent and fit the bill for what you get, I had good sleep and bathroom was clean and decent. We had a great prepared meal buffet they gave us and a selection of very good deserts! Couples or other guests not in a tour, might not get this. Breakfast next day was your standard Scandic fare and did the trick to get going for the day. Staff all seemed helpful and good. I can't complain about stay.
