Hotel Monday Kyoto Marutamachi

I booked a family room for 2 adults and 1 child, but when I checked in, they asked for an additional 3,500 JPY, saying there's an extra charge for children. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Excellent, offers fantastic value for money. Highly recommend! The front desk staff also spoke great English.

The location is excellent – the hotel is just across the street from Subway Exit 5. This exit is particularly traveler-friendly as it's the only one with a direct elevator to street level. The hotel breakfast was quite good, allowing for a leisurely Japanese meal. While the room was a bit small, it perfectly met our basic accommodation needs.

The hotel is conveniently located near Marutamachi subway station, with exits 2 and 4 being the closest. However, if you need an elevator, you'll have to use exit 5, which is across the street. The room was surprisingly spacious and could comfortably accommodate five people. Our kids were thrilled to sleep on the tatami mats for a night. The biggest pleasant surprise at this hotel was the free shuttle service to Kinkakuji Temple and the Arashiyama Sagano Scenic Railway.

I chose this hotel for my trip to Kyoto. While it initially appeared quite close to the subway station, it was actually a bit of a walk from the exit, but still manageable. The hotel itself was excellent, with rooms slightly more spacious than what you'd typically find in Osaka. The property was clean and tidy, rooms had a fridge, and there's a convenience store right next door, which was very convenient. Nearby, you'll find the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park (Kyoto Gyoen), the former imperial palace grounds. It's a lovely spot for a stroll if you have some free time, and you'll often see many dogs there.
