Second time I've stayed at Candeo in Kyoto and it's as good as I remember it! Location is not as central as some of the other hotels, but still close enough that things are within walking distance. Best part is the public bath that is completely tattoo friendly and is what keeps me coming back!

Environment: Japanese hotels tend to be small, and this one was no exception, quite narrow. However, the interior design was very unique. Service: Neither warm nor cold. The English spoken by the Indian gentleman during check-in required a particularly keen ear. Hygiene: Terrible! This was the only downside. When I pulled back the duvet, the inside was surprisingly black, and there were some spots that looked either dirty or moldy? (See photo) I could only sleep with the top layer folded down. Also, I couldn't find the master light switch. It took me ages to figure out how to turn off the mirror light, and I had to ask the front desk in the end. The shower cubicle was extremely small. Location: Excellent! This is the most highly recommended aspect. It's within walking distance to all the good food, attractions, and very convenient for the subway.

Stayed for two nights. On the first day, I wasn't used to the Japanese breakfast and wanted to switch to Western breakfast for the second day, but I was told I needed to give two days' notice for a breakfast change. This was not mentioned during check-in. The hotel's location is so-so; it's neither very close nor very far from attractions and the train station.

The hotel is nice. The bath and sauna area was the highlight - lovely and quiet area. The room was good: comfortable for three days but the layout made it feel quite compact (toilet and shower on opposite sides). It was however quite a dark room and the light switches are scattered all around the place - not all one central spot and not next to the bed. Furthermore if you are over 170cm, you will probably have to duck quite a bit as the ceilings and doorways are sometimes very low. Overall it was good and a nice relaxing stay but I would probably look elsewhere if I came back to Kyoto.

Very nice hotel with good amenities. Especially lovely the Onsen. Lovely lounge with relaxing library area in beautiful old style Japanese heritage building.

The room was nice, and it's not too far to walk to Sanjo and Shijo. The bus stop is also close by, which is great for shopping, but it's a bit of a distance from the subway station. If you have a lot of luggage, I recommend planning your route beforehand. There's a coffee shop right around the corner where you can grab breakfast. Overall, it's pretty good, but many of the staff aren't Japanese, so communicating might be a little difficult if you don't speak Japanese.

The hotel is new, and the room was absolutely stunning. Generally, rooms in Kyoto tend to be more spacious than in Tokyo, which was a huge plus! The Japanese-style breakfast was delicious. The hotel also features onsen-style baths which weren't crowded – a fantastic perk. The hotel itself is comprised of two distinct sections: an historic building that houses the reception, and a new high-rise for the guest rooms, all seamlessly blended together. Yukatas are provided for guests.

I didn’t expect how great the stay at the hotel was going to be. The front part of the hotel is the old Japanese style building, with the traditional seating areas. The rooms and onsen are located in the back modern building. It’s a perfect mix of the old and new without having any downside. Great location, walking distance to bars, restaurants, markets, malls. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast bento boxes were a great touch. Would highly recommend to everyone.

The main advantage is its proximity to the subway and bus stations, and it's also not far from Nishiki Market. However, the 'eco-friendly' cleaning service wasn't as thorough as hotels in Osaka.
