Wow! Is all I can say. I made the mistake of ordering a double burger and chips, I couldn't eat it all! I swear there was enough for two, or 4 children... The size of the food didn't lack quality either. Honestly there was/is so much flavour in the meat, sauce and freshness of salad stuff too. I'm just clearly no able to eat as much as my eyes tell me. Highly recommend the Crown to people for food!

We stayed here in July on our grand tour of the UK hence the very slow review. This hotel is a hidden gem in a beautiful location. We arrived after driving up from Manchester and were welcomed by Ben and shown through the hotel which is so much bigger than it looks, but still very homely. Ben explained breakfast as we had a non-refundable booking. Great idea guys having people book as it means everyone knows where they stand at 08:00 in the morning. We did the usual room check, tea, coffee etc (not that we drink much of that). We popped in the shower and decided on the plan for the afternoon walking or a drink. We planned on a walk after a drink in the end and never made it out LOL. Although Sam mentioned that walking to and from the bar counted (check your fitbit you can cover some millage LOL). As the G&T took full effect food was on our mind and the menu was perfect for us burgers and chicken we bought 3 Texan, 2 chicken, 2 crown burgers and multi tenders 15 I think (new record) and sides. We asked if things could be popped on platters so we could try bits and it wasn't an issue. After another few sips (pints) our platter arrived boy was it good and we did consider if we needed takeaway doggy boxes for the next day. You can tell it is all handmade and fresh. we stayed in the bar until about 23:00 and discussed whether we needed a breakfast around 19:00 and yes we did if the food earlier that night was anything to go by. We went and asked Ben who rang up and it was sorted. We stumbled through the building to our rooms and slept like the dead, at 07:45 feeling worse for wear my wonderful friends came knocking to remind me that breakfast was go. Sam and Steve met us in their breakfast nook and there was a nice range of cereals, fresh coffee & juice. To the main event the cooked one. Again exceptional food and enough to sort out the morning after feeling. I'm wondering if same can defy the laws of gravity though as the stacked items were just stood there. Check out was a breeze and Sam was still flitting about with gravity defying plates. Ask her the Haggis story brilliant and hysterical. Thanks for a fab weekend guys, we'll be back when we're in the country again and will tell all our friends back home.

We've just returned from a great weekend away at this hotel. The team are friendly & we were made very welcome, the breakfasts are great & the wings out of this world. Great to see work being done in the building as we've been a few times over th past 10 years.

We stopped at The Crown in July 2023 for the common riding. We stop here every year and each time we stop we are always greeted with the warmest of welcomes from Sam,her family and the staff. Nothing is too much for the staff here and we always feel comfortable and happy on our stay. We had breakfast each morning along with a lovely latte and fresh orange juice to wash it down. Which is always lovely. The bar in the hotel is also very welcoming with a good choice of alcohol including dry martini for my mum which is something we struggle to get for her. The hotel is having a refurb and having seen one of the rooms nearly completed I can honestly say it’s stunning but in keeping with the hotel. The restaurant is being turned into a grill restaurant. This will be a welcomed addition to Langholm as there is no other grill bar in the town. My mum struggles with her legs and breathing isn’t as good as it was but Sam has arranged for next time we stop for a room with easier access. Again nothing is too much trouble.

I visited recently with my sister and our dogs. The hotel is very dog friendly and has some lovely walks nearby along the river Esk. Kielder water in Northumberland is about a 35 minute drive away with some lovely scenery. The rooms are clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee. The food is nicely cooked and portions are large. Just what you need after a full day walking

The place used to be brilliant, laid back, relaxed and most importantly good fun, but now with these new owners it’s strict and lifeless, forcing bar staff to close early and making customers feel unwanted. Food is absolutely horrendous, pints are hit or miss and the place is in desperate need of painting and decor, but instead of doing that they keep the place exactly the same? At least with previous owners the state of the pub wasn’t an issue as they welcomed you in. Whilst on the subject of upkeep, the males toilets could easily be one of the least sanitary places I’ve been, couple local lads say there aren’t many girls come into the pub (can’t understand why 🙄) so they just used the female toilets, apposed to being subjected to using the males. Which I completely understand as I’d imagine Thailand prisons have better facilities, this is the number one thing needing done first! I understand things done get done over night but they have been in for a couple years now and to not even paint the doors and the walls on the front of the building seems bonkers to me (make the place look inviting!!!) I also recommend not closing at 10/10:30 when you have people requesting to stay, would be extra money towards bringing the male toilets into the 21st century.

A great little hotel in a beautiful town which seems to be a well-kept secret. First, we'd like to say ignore the negative neds and norahs on *********** yes the building like us is old but she is undergoing work to make her beautiful (yes Sam does call the hotel she and very affectionately the grand old lady of Langholm), with that out the way to our stay. Sam and Steve have a fantastic team and you can see that, unlike so many places as owners and bosses, they actually care. We checked in a little later than planned after the sat nag sent us around the houses to another Crown Hotel in Lochobe, not as pretty. Anyway after we arrived we were greeted on a busy Saturday by Jayson, he showed us to our room and explained how breakfast worked (basically book in advance if you're on anything other than B&B or D, B&B) we did the usual checked out the tea/coffee, toiletries and the usual bits that usually lack. After putting our feet up and watching tv we ventured down to the bar. They have a great choice of drinks available and I can say as an Irish man the best Guinness this side of Dublin, chilled to perfection, my wife enjoyed the cider again cold, crisp and actually tasted of apples. We were informed it was the regularity of Steve cleaning his pipes, lucky man. We decided to eat early and asked for the menu and whilst not huge it is perfectly formed. I had the chicken wings and my wife the spicy boi (it has been a long time since she called me that) burger. We sat and enjoyed the cold and refreshing drinks, after 20 minutes Sam and Steve arrived with our food and both meals looked good. I pulled out the joke that my wife hasn't called me a spicy boi in a while, Steven gave that knowing male nod that empathised with me, whilst Sam and my darling wife rolled their eyes and decided it was too early in the day for that nonsense. The food was delicious I wish I'd ordered 8 wings I know for next time. I don't know where they get their chicken breasts from but I did suspect my wife's burger had been made using a small dinosaur. We ordered more drinks and enjoyed the relaxed but fun atmosphere in the bar. Sam came in to grab the plates and made sure everything was okay, and casually mentioned sticky toffee pudding as she left. So now we're intrigued so desert it was and boy it did not disappoint. You can tell everything is homemade with care. Sam & Steve popped their heads into the bar to catch up with their regulars and make sure the bar staff didn't need anything before making sure we didn't need anything. We didn't. what a fantastic night we had and we went to bed far later than we had planned to. It's true what they say time flies when you're having fun. We wandered off to bed and slept like logs the most comfortable bed, to say the least. We headed down very sadly to check out to find a chipper Sam and her two little helpers (Harry and Zara were so polite ) Zara took the key and Harry asked if needed any help with our bags, the hotel will be in

What a great place to stay. We booked into the Crown and were greeted by a very friendly barman, I think we heard his name, Ben. He showed us up to our room and explained how the front door worked (not as daft as it sounds, as they have a very clever fob system). We stayed in room 8 which was lovely and clean with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot which are both huge bonuses in this day in age. We were in town visiting friends so did not eat but the menu looks lovely and the food that was coming out looked delicious, with impeccable presentation. Again we can not comment on breakfast as we had to leave early (long before any signs of life in the town) although Sam did very kindly offer us a grab-and-go breakfast to be delivered to us. We would highly recommend the hotel, as a comfortable and welcoming place to stay.
