Salpalinjan Hovi

Staying in a fully renovated and charming old school, was a wonderful experience. It was very clean and comfortable place to stay. Prices were reasonable and you could also buy breakfast. There was a pretty garden, a possibility to barbecue and "a bathing barrel" and sauna were in use of the guests. A very family-friendly beach was within 400 meters walking distance. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend this place.

I've been here with my family for two nights. Anne and Timo are really some of the kindest persons that we've met in Finland. They welcomed us warmly, and offered us all the information about nearby natural trails, attractions in the city and along the road towards our next stop. They also kindly gave us their bikes to reach some of the nicest spots around. Their house is a beautiful mansion immersed in one of the immense Finnish forests close to Saimaa lake, but it is easily reachable thanks to the adjacent railroad and the highway, just 10 minutes from the city center of Lappeenranta. It is an oasis of peace in the nature, and the apar**ents are nice, tidy and soaked by the love and the spirit of the rural life. Strongly recommended.

Everything was perfect,from the friendly helpful 'Anne' to the room,facilities, cleanliness and beautiful surroundings. The a**osphere was great, too. We would highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

A historic building on the outside, modernized on the inside, the guest house lies on the Salpa Line which was built to defend Finland during WWII. The Karelian flag flies proudly in the garden. The hosts arrange tours of the line and enthusiastically suggest walks and activities around Lappeenranta. The walk from the house to the lake Myllylampi was beautiful and alive with birds. Rooms are equipped with kitchen and dining areas.

We visited Salpalinjan Hovi in May and were given a tour of the Salpa Line sights by Anne. She was very knowledgable and friedly. The hotel is beautiful. Styled very nicely and with plenty of character. A grest place to spend time.

Overall this place is ok. However there were a few little minus points. The room is pleasant enough, with a nice en-suite bathroom. Though i wasn't too sure about whether i wanted to use the communal shower sponge. It seemed a little odd that you'd have something that hundreds of other people may have used. So the room was ok and the subsequent breakfast that came with it. So the negatives. I mean these weren't huge negatives, but they did leave a bitter aftertaste. The first would be the host. Now this could be a translation thing, but it did feel that they weren't really interested in me being there. Secondly they openly tried to over charge me. Now i did question this when it came for me to leave and I was repaid. The second thing was the hosts recommendation for dinner. The host gave me a flyer for a nearby pizza delivery place. When i tried to order a pizza they were rude and simply put the phone down on me. Now i know the host isn't to blame for that, but I was put out by it. So it's an ok place.
