If you want to experience the Swiss Alps in a true fashion, stay there. The pension is family run,you eat what they cook. There are no other restaurants around. There’s no tv but a room full of board games, fabulous views. Nights are quiet with only the stars and the sounds of the mountains around you for company. Sabine, the owner aims to please and is always busy finding solutions for unexpected events. No cars allowed and the only way to get there is with the funicular from Lauterbrunnen. For nature lovers and hikers a perfect place. It’s the “ getting away from it all” place. We loved it.

The pension is part of “old Gimmelwald” so is a bit creaky with community bathrooms, but it is charming because of that. The staff were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Pension Grimmelwald is the quintessential old Swiss guest house. Extremely friendly owners, great staff, good food & beverages. The location is beyond beautiful, village is tiny & the hiking is extraordinary.

We had a wonderful stay at Pension Gimmelwald. Sabine, David and their staff were super attentive and friendly. After arriving a bit late on our first evening (taking one of the last cable cars up to Gimmelwald) we found Sabine waiting patiently, greeting us with a smile and a drink. Pension Gimmelwald is truly charming and pleasantly rustic. A real down-to-earth, family a**osphere pervades, with cozy furnishings, board games and travel books in the den and restaurant area, and a warm glow all around. Opening our window on the first morning to the sights and sounds of this beautiful mountain village was a magical experience. Our room was comfortable and clean, as were the shared bathroom facilities. Despite the poor weather, we could not have asked for a nicer stay, and the cost was very reasonable. While poor weather prevented the hoped-for hiking further up the mountain, the trek up to the waterfalls of Chilchbalm was really cool. Our only regret is that we wish we had more time to enjoy this amazing place.

Very original and traditional pension in old wooden house. Toilets and showers in corridor, but for the rest charming and quite ok
