Yuck. That’s basically the overall feeling from our one night stay while touring colleges in the area. The elevator was dirty - hadn’t been vacuumed. We used our digital key to access the room. We should have asked to change when we were hit with a smell - not mold/mildew - more like some kind of food was cooked in the microwave at some point and imbedded itself into the fabrics in the room. If that was the only issue, not a big deal. But basically, the whole room was just yucky. The door to the room was covered in marks. The actual door handle/lock mechanism moved around when we used it - at some point it’s going to come right off. The room was covered in stains. The sheets didn’t feel very clean - very worn and thin. The pillows themselves were good. The mattress creaked and was well worn. Surprisingly, the bathroom was the cleanest/newest part of the room. This was the least expensive hotel we stayed in during our trip, but I would have gladly spent more if I’d known the quality of this hotel. I would not recommend, and I would not stay there again.

I am not happy about a $75 "security deposit" that this hotel charged. I was not told on the phone when making the reservation about any $75 extra security deposit. The person who checked my family member in at the front desk spoke to me on the phone and he was not pleasant at all. I couldn't get anything in writing about what the criteria is for the $75 to be refunded. The "security deposit" isn't on my bill and there is nothing in writing about it. My family member was told about it as he was checking in and that it would take 5-7 business days to refund "if everything looks ok with the room". Who decides what "ok with the room" means if nothing is put in writing?

Standard, reliable Hampton Inn. Walkable to the river path and restaurants in the renovated mill district. Less than 10 min drive to Bates College. Complimentary chocolate chip cookies available at check-in time. Breakfast is just standard fare.

Resented $75 Deposit which is not returned for 5 business days, holding my $ hostage. Blaming the length of hold on issuing card bank is lame. As a 70 year old single traveler without a pet, this deposit is absurd. I don't party, didn't buy anything, and if I did, would not charge to my room. I Pay as I go. Juz say'n........ridiculous.....
