Holiday Inn resort, Hoi Ying Lang

Location: I initially chose this hotel as the website indicated that our ride would be able to drop us at the doorstep. Unfortunately, it is not the case. We had to lug it from the roadside to the premise along the way, we had to lift the luggage over a low wall as the main access gate was closed. No staff assistance available when we checked out. . Room: Very spacious but the room and its contents has had better days. Having said this, the room was located in a quiet area with no cigarette smells. Cleanliness: Passable although the shower area needs a good scrub. Amenities: Basic standard amenities. A kettle provided but no tea or coffee etc. Service: Good. Although the team felt like it was running on a skeletal capacity but the front desk was very responsive and things like fused light bulbs were attended to quite fast. Breakfast: Missed it as it ends at 9.30am which in my opinion is abit early. . Overall, it was a comfortable stay. Would I return again, to this hotel to stay? I doubt it. I would be more inclined to stay in one of the newer mingsus closer to either the north or south gates, which offer luggage transport.

We booked a suite, and it looked exactly like the photos which is great, opulent in fact. For the price we paid it is incredible value really. The hotel seemed empty and could have done so much better. It definitely has issues: 1. Its location on Trip.com is wrong, even the name differs. Taxi/Didi will drop you at Shuhe South Gate 200m away. 2. Check in time says 1:30pm on Trip.com but on arrival they ask you to come back at 2pm, no welcome, no acknowledgment of how many bags you want to leave in their care, they will ignore you until 2pm. 3. One male staff was unbelievably rude, he came to the reception when we wanted to check in at 1:30pm and “Oi!!!” loudly at us like he was yelling at a dog. In all our lives we never had such greetings. Our reaction must have told him, he was quiet after and quickly checked us in. 4. Lacking in details: a few umbrellas at reception would be nice in Yunnan’s rain, there was a kettle in the room but no coffee or tea bags (Yunnan is famous for both). No bathmat either but a yellow sign “Caution Wet Floor”, no soap at the basin, nothing. Shower was weak and tepid even at hottest level. 5. Breakfast was poor in a dining room with leaking roof. It felt like the hotel is running on empty, and few skeleton staff. On the PLUS side: great location in Shuhe Ancient Town, very spacious suite, super comfortable king bed, hotel does have a few super helpful staff who genuinely want to make it work, even apologized for the rude male staff.
