This is a hidden gem in a prime location near the city wall of Linhai. It’s a converted hutong down a side street and is well signposted. The receptionist didn’t speak English but we communicated via an app and she was so helpful. The room was spacious with satin sheets. The bathroom was clean and had hot water instantly for showering. I would stay here again. Also all rooms face into a lovely courtyard where you can sit and chill. I’m

This hotel is quite charming—it’s a large, old house that has been nicely converted into several hotel rooms. Our room was very comfortable.
However, a heads-up regarding the bathroom: there was no door on the toilet area, and the shower was an all-glass enclosure. Since I was traveling with my husband, it wasn't an issue for us, but if you are traveling with friends, you might want to be aware of this lack of privacy.
The location is excellent! It’s right next to the City Wall and super close to several great restaurants and cool bars.
We also liked the service; the staff were quite attentive. One thing I found confusing, though, was that they didn't register my address as per the usual government standard for foreign guests, which most hotels in China follow.
As for cleanliness, it was standard for China—there were a few stray hairs in parts of the room (usually women's hair), but I find this happens in practically any hotel here.
Overall, it was a good stay!

The cleanliness was terrible; everything was covered in dust. Upon checking in, I found a half-empty bottle of mineral water in the room. The room was also very small, without even a proper chair; I had to lie on the bed. The soundproofing was also poor. The only advantage was the location; it's right next to the pedestrian street and Ziyang Ancient Street, making shopping and dining convenient.

The guesthouse is very close to Ziyang Street. It doesn't look very big, with a small courtyard that's tastefully furnished. We stayed on the first floor near the courtyard gate. The room door couldn't be locked from the inside and had no safety latch; the guesthouse said this was a requirement of the local police. The windows couldn't be closed completely, which made us feel insecure. The service was okay; they provided a complimentary drink and a refreshing herbal porridge upon check-in, one cup per person, which was a welcome relief in the heat. Unfortunately, that was the only cup available; when we asked for another, they said they were out of stock. Before check-in, the guesthouse contacted us in advance via WeChat to provide directions and travel guidance. The bedding was quite comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well. The bathroom sink looked unclean; it was old, yellowed, and reddish.

The room provided did not match the photos. After inquiring, it was discovered that the room I booked had been given to someone else, although they later changed the room. Nevertheless, it was still an unpleasant stay experience.

1. Unreasonable room layout: The toilet has no door, only a curtain, and no ventilation. There's only a window facing what appears to be an old courtyard, making using the toilet extremely inconvenient. The bathroom has glass on two sides, without even a curtain, directly facing the bed and sink, making showering inconvenient as well. Utterly baffling, I don't know what they were thinking. The room light is right next to the window, which overlooks the hallway. At night, it's very dark outside, and once the light is on, everyone outside can see right into the room, offering absolutely no privacy.
2. Poor soundproofing: While this is a common problem with guesthouses, I've never seen such a lack of soundproofing before. Even normal conversations outside, unless someone is shouting, are clearly audible. It's even noisier when guests check in or out in the morning, making it impossible to sleep.
3. Extremely poor hygiene: This is the most critical issue. All photos are actual. The first photo shows hair on the pillow before I even lay down. The third and fourth photos show another pillow with stains that haven't been cleaned, let alone disinfected. The fifth and sixth photos show the sofa and cushions, with visible red bloodstains and unwashed spots; the hygiene is incomprehensible.
4. Absolutely No Service: While I don't know about other guesthouses, this one truly offered no service whatsoever. Before check-in, the owner asked for my phone number to add me on WeChat, but 20 minutes later, no one had added me. When I called back, they made up an excuse that the number couldn't be added, completely fabricated, and shifted the blame onto the guest. A guesthouse could easily add someone by phone the night before, and even if they couldn't, they should have called back immediately. Letting it sit for 20 minutes clearly indicates they forgot and were lying to shift the blame. Also, the next morning, I needed to take my medication and wanted two more bottles of water, but when I went to the front desk, no one was there, so I had to find the water dispenser myself. I also couldn't find anyone to get two more toiletries, so I had to find the linen cart and search for my toothbrush—very inconvenient.

It's rare that this B&B has a 1.5-meter double bed (I chose n B&Bs but they all had 1.2-meter beds). It's very nice to take care of the kids. The proprietress was also very enthusiastic to pick us up in person. The Chinese courtyard in two TV dramas is really super large. I feel like I chose the right B&B
