My husband and I have stayed here twice before and loved our stay. Unfortunately on this occasion it wasn’t so great. We were made to feel very unwelcome at breakfast with the waitress and what looked like the Manager whispering in the corner. They never came over until we had to ask for some coffee. He then asked rather abruptly which room we were in. We had paid extra for a superior room and were made to feel like we were intruding. He brought a coffee pot without any milk so I had to get some from the cereal table. There was usually a selection of pastries but they had gone. When were were finally served breakfast, it was cold with a raw sausage and very under cooked egg. When we paid so much I feel like the food and terrible service was was a waste of our hard earned money. My husband went for a swim and jacuzzi and was told to get out of the jacuzzi. We won’t be coming back here. The service has gone way down hill and we know we can get better for less elsewhere.

We were passing through on business and stayed here a night .. our welcome was non Existent , a few niceties would have been good . The room was clean , pillows hard and you couldn’t open the windows so got very hot ! The best part of the hotel was the sweet waitress at dinner who was exceptional, her service was good and she always had a smile . As was the head waiter .

Good points: Spa facilities (swimming pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi) were amazing - spacious and excellent condition; bedroom was tidy and comfortable (comfortable bed, new carpets); restaurant food was very good (though menu limited) and good selection at breakfast; lovely gardens, very quiet and relaxing location; free bottle of Prosecco in room was nice surprise (comes with booking for 3 or more nights) Issues: Bathroom was a bit grimy and dated; housekeeping services in cleaning room and bathroom was a bit poor; hotel staff were friendly but inexperienced; grander parts of hotel under renovation (including what looked like a lovely bar area in the library)

We had been told the hotel would be finished but it wasn't. So the main Reception and the sitting rooms were not ready, nor was the main dining room. Once they have finished, it will be great but I was disappointed. The spa area was nice, the pool warm, the jacuzzi hot and the steam room lovely. You could have drinks but had to go out of the spa to order and bring them back - not ideal. Our room was nice enough although plugs had not been connected and one of the lamps was not working. We had dinner there the first night - not everything was available - at 7.30pm. Breakfast was OK - a cooked one made to order but the scrambled eggs were very strange and I heard someone else say the same.....staff attentive and helpful.

Absolutely amazing staff really lovely to stop there felt at rest and chilled the spa is lovely as well. We have already talked about coming back later to celebrate my birthday. Our favourite place to visit and chill out at the spa. I particularly liked the grounds and wildlife there's hares and red squirrels in the grounds and nice walks to get that lovely fresh Welsh air. highly recommended it's so nice to be treated by staff who put you first we both felt like we were valued and definitely cared for

Positives: Great location and was near to what we wanted to see. The staff are very friendly throughout the hotel and spa. The beauty treatment (back, neck and shoulder massage) was relaxing. The gym is newly refurbished and was great, with a wide selection of cardio and free weights. The pool was attractive and overall the facilities were well kept and clean. Lovely food at dinner. Penguin biscuits in the room and walkers crisps - love it! Areas for improvement: The bed was very creaky. The room was in need of some serious TLC (I can see they are working on this in other parts of the hotel) but wallpaper peeling off the walls, dirt and yellow paintwork was off-putting at times. Could hear every sound from other rooms including one guest who snored the night away... Could have been a wider selection of food at breakfast as this was pretty limiting.

Lovely, peaceful retreat at this luxurious old country house, conjuring up the grandeur of a bygone age. The staff were delightful, and some of the facilities were excellent. We’ll be back when the restoration work is complete.

Had an amazing weekend break at this hotel, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable and relaxing, the spa was excellent, rooms were comfortable and the surrounding area was quiet. We will definitely be back
