Very conveniently located hotel which provided good accommodation and food. It’s ideal as a base for exploring the town (which is well worth a visit). The staff were helpful and friendly. The only issues we had were with breakfast: there was a coach party and that put pressure on service, which was slow. Also, we had continental breakfasts and the fruit salad was poor (mostly melon) and the choice of cereals was limited. We were pleasantly surprised by Bury St Edmunds itself, which has lots of history (the hotel itself dates from the late 18th century and has vaults which go back further).

We stayed here as a present from our children for our 40th wedding anniversary. The room was spectacular with views overlooking the abbey ,the standalone copper bath was definitely an eye catcher. Good selection of teas and coffees in the room .The real treat was the breakfast served in the dining room (although you could have room service ) the food was delicious the staff were attentive without being overbearing . Another lovely gesture was the concierge who took our cases to our room and parked the car for us. All in all a fabulous weekend.

The perfect stay to celebrate our Anniversary. Made us feel special the moment we arrived. The room was spacious and the bed in particular was very comfortable. Slept like a baby. The service throughout our stay was fabulous. Breakfast was included in our booking and was also just perfect.

We did get an upgrade to a Copper Room which always make one well disposed to a hotel, but even before we reached our room we had a warm welcome with our car taken off to be parked on site, very stylish interiors and a prime location on the main square directly opposite the Abbey and magnificent Cathedral. Definitely eat at the hotel as the restaurant was equally stylish and the food incredibly good - as was breakfast the following morning. The room was huge with a view of the abbey/cathedral and many nice touches. Couldn’t fault this hotel

Booked Sunday lunch in The Vaults. The food was very good, the service just as good. Yet it was spoilt for me, by sitting next to a man in gym gear and SHORTS. He wouldn’t get into a night club dressed in this attire. Yet he can eat in a 4 star hotel? Maybe it’s my age, and standards. I just found it strange, and off putting……

Three of us went for lunch. Lovely decor and environment and good service but food very average. Limited menu with the cheapest dish being £19 for fish and chips with stodgy batter which in my view is a bit steep. Also 12.5% service is added onto the bill and I would prefer the option to pay service of my choice.

Reception were not on top of things. I made a booking of two rooms and used my credit card as a guarantee. I informed the lady at the reception that only one room should be booked on my card and so did my colleague. However, they still charged both rooms to my credit card!

Really mixed feelings about this hotel. Held my wedding reception in The Vaults back at the end of March and the food and service from (Cryssos and Megan especially) was impeccable. The buffet was plentiful and the guests all really loved both the space of The Vaults and the food and service. Unfortunately we spent our wedding night and following night there (groom did stay the night before and is not as fussed as me) but I didn't see the room until our wedding night and was quite mortified that they had put us in such a disgustingly dirty and run down room! I didn't comment to management at the time as we wanted to enjoy a couple of days together without wasting our time being moved rooms or complaining, but as you can see from the pics the room is past it's best. Filthy stains on headboard. Stained shower cubicle and old and run down decor - this is hardly luxurious for a £200+ room. Especially for a wedding night -and something that was meant to be an indulgent treat for us. Fabulous view out of the window though, but sadly I am totally put off staying at this esaltablishment which seems to have invested all its money in revamping the bar and restaurant and is not spending anything on the rooms...I do feel ripped off and as others have previously pointed out these failings in reviews, I can only presume the management simply don't care. Shame, as could be something spectacular. So a good place to eat and drink, but I wouldn't advise staying, as seems hit and miss on the quality of the rooms.

We paid £250 for a standard double room expecting a little luxury. We were instead put in a small, tired and dreary room which was noisy, had the worlds smallest tv, No fridge, had to move the kettle to boil, horrod old furniture and a bathroom from the 1970’s. Incredibly disappointed with the room, we were completely ripped off!!! I’ve stayed on better travel lodge rooms.
