A bit disappointing, room next door to the loft and you could hear everyone coming and going. Breakfast was tasty but did not contain all items advertised.

The Linden experience! The hotel and gardens were very nice but thats where the good part of the review ends. Lunch in the Linden Tree was mediocre, tasteless and over priced (sandwiches made with the cheapest white loaf you can get) Dinner was even worse. The 6 of us were horrified at the quality of the food placed in front of us. Insipid, bland, tasteless, overpriced rubbish. The manager did the right thing and knocked the price of 6 starters and mains off thw bill. We were on room only rate, cooked breakfast was £24 and was just as tasteless. A very poor assortment of cold items from the buffet The second morning we went to Dobbies and had a great breakfast for a third of the price. The spa is ok but not brilliant. Only 6 sun loungers indoors, so they were like gold dust. Would we stay here again? Absolutely NOT

We loved this hotel. Huge old house amidst a golf course and parkland, over half a mile down a drive from the main road. Grounds not explored as it was pouring with rain for almost the whole day, but the staff lit a fire in the main hall, which was very welcome on a cold, wet May day, and added to the charm. Very quiet and peaceful overall. Grand public rooms and large books illustrating some of the history of the place. Rooms spacious and clean. We only had breakfast in house, self service continental and table service for cooked breakfast, which was well cooked and presented by efficient and pleasant waiting staff. I had a massage, which I much enjoyed, but didn't try the pool and gym. Small deduction in overall mark due to signs of wear and tear in places but this did not detract from our enjoyment of the place.

I’m not one to complain or even write reviews but holy moly something needs to be done with this absolute shocker… arrived at the hotel today. Checked in all ok so far… got into the lift, wow absolutely honking, foisty would be the word. Room is bang average, scuffs up the walls, bed really small, bathroom dated. Here comes the WORST part of the stay… the restaurant, if you even could call it that. First of all, didn’t get asked if we had any allergies which i’m pretty sure isn’t right. After looking at the menu I ordered the Potato Rosti which was just a hash brown with a poached egg which didn’t have a runny yolk, so basically a boiled egg. Mrs attempted to order the Scotch Egg which they didn’t have, so she went for the squid rings which were stringy and cold. She left basically the full starter, but given it was left nobody even asked if everything was ok. Next up main course…. Mrs gets the burger, had better from McDonalds. More cheese than burger. The bun was x2 the size of the burger. I ordered the beef… it came out freezing cold, like I mean the middle was actually freezing. So I sent it back, no apology? Just I’ll take it back and get it heated up. Anyways, come out 10 minutes later to be something totally different which was on the menu? Like I mean totally different. Like the only thing which was on the menu which actually came out was beef, the explanation was they’ve been struggling to get the correct ingredients. My personal favourite was the silver skin pickled onions in gravy……… anyhow, that was left. Cheesecake came out, supposed to be vanilla, was white chocolate. Complained to the duty manager who apologised and asked if I wanted a round of drinks… unfortunately alcohol isn’t going to make my hunger go away. Hopefully pick up with the hotel manager in the morning!!!

The room was ready when we arrived, about 30 minutes early. The spa treatment we had was very good, great staff and nice facilities. We had the dinner bed and breakfast package and our table booked for 7pm. The restaurant is a separate building from the hotel and is a pub. The surroundings are pleasant and we were seated in the conservatory, close to the kitchen. This is where the issues started. Our starter of rosti, poached egg and truffle sauce took some time and when it was served the poached egg was solid, the meal was not seasoned and very bland. I ordered beef roulade with fondant potato, red wine sauce with bacon, mushrooms and green beans, my wife had the only vegetarian option, gnocchi in tomato sauce. This again took some time to get to us, when it did it was very disappointing. My meal was basically compressed mince meat with absolutely no taste. It was not as described and can with boiled potatoes and broccoli. There was bacon, mushrooms or red wine sauce. It was also served with pickled onions! The gnocchi was again bland and mushy. We only ate two mouthfuls and spoke to the manager to explain our concerns. He agreed the meals were not as described, apologised and offered an alternative, which we declined. We declined as we could see into the kitchen and it appeared to be completely disorganised. To be fair, it appeared the staff in there did not know their way around and were either new or last minute stand ins. They were also staring at us and we didn’t feel comfortable ordering a different dish. We left hungry and very disappointed. We have stayed in many Macdonald hotels and never had any issues. This ruined a birthday stay and we will definitely not be returning.

Worst greens I’ve played on in a while. Long grass, short grass, patchy areas, covered in sand. Rough crazy long too and cut grass left all over it. Not a pinch of sand in the few bunkers we were in. Teed off at 14:06, finished by 19:00. Waiting on every tee box. When I rang the golf club phone number mid round they said “nothing we can do about it being slow” Shame because the course has some great looking holes. Just need some greenstaff to maintain the course. Extremely disappointed, will not return for golf again. Waste of money and time. Would not recommend. Massively overpriced for the quality of conditions.

Honest review of our couple stay in May 2024. Staff very friendly throughout, to reception, bar staff and dining staff. All ensured we were having a good stay. The room - We went for the basic room to save cost, however I was a bit disappointed at the room. Very small bed which was soft but didn’t really fit two adults (I’m just 6ft and feet were hanging off the end). Tv looks to be from early 2000 which was very complicated to use with no smart functions. Room could do with a bit of TLC, from large cracks in the roof to an actual hole in the paint in the bathroom. Shower in the bedroom also seemed to be out of date and wasn’t a set temperature and would range from hot to cold without touching the lever. Our room door also didn’t close properly - a little concerning from a security point of view. However, heated towel rail was a plus and worked well. The spa / pool area - very impressed with this side of the stay. Very clean facilities with a sauna, steam room and a large pool alongside a hot tub. Wasn’t too busy when we arrived, definitely the highlight of our trip. Again staff very friendly throughout. Only negative feedback was again lacked TLC throughout with broken lockers in changing rooms (male) and noticeable cracks in the roof / down door edges. Some great facilities, I would recommend the steam room! Overall we enjoyed our stay however due to the poor room quality we wouldn’t return in a hurry. I also rang up the staff and asked them to do something nice for my partners birthday which they stated they would leave a note and something in the room, which they seem to have forgot to do - a little awkward for me expecting something to be left by the staff.

We visited to day to play 9holes golf we really enjoyed . Then a late lunch at the linden Tree pub . I had a prawn sandwich on brown , side salad and crisps .really disappointed served on very cheap bread the Maria rose Sauce was more liquid than A sauce the whole thing was not worth the money we paid . We did mention to the server who really did not want to know.
