All in all, very good one night road trip stay. Rooms in separate building across the road. Very well furnished and good vfm . The heating seemed not to be functioning, but the unseasonably warm weather meant that was not a problem. Breakfast was ,unusually these days, served by waitress at table, and very good quality. Same applied to evening meal. All staff very friendly and approachable. Recommended, especially if you can obtain the B and B plus 2 Course dinner with a bottle of wine for £150 package, which is great value.

Beautiful old stone buildings (pub and barn annexe). Completely renovated inside and out. Accommodation is in a newly converted barn just over the road from the pub. 4 rooms upstairs and a few rooms on the ground floor that are accessible for people with disabilities. Our room was very clean, with storage space and wall-mounted tv. Separate bath/shower room with toilet and sink. Towels and shower gel were provided. Bed very large and comfortable. One night for two people, including breakfast, was £100. The breakfast was truly magnificent, both in quantity and quality. Meals are taken in the pub. All the interior has been refurbished to a high standard and there is a beautiful log fire that heated all the rooms. There were 4 or 5 separate rooms around the bar area. Staff very friendly and very helpful. Large car park to rear of pub. The pub is also dog friendly. It is very convenient for Chatsworth House, which we visited. I would have no hesitation in recommending. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely book here again.

A group of us booked a lunch at the Cheshire Cheese. The staff were lovely and friendly. The lounge, which had recently been renovated, was comfortable and welcoming with a much appreciated roaring fire. We selected from the main menu and also had several portions of the street food which was available at the bar. The food was delicious: hearty, tasty, generous and competitively priced - we enjoyed all portions The service was excellent, the lady looking after our party helpful and enthusiastic - we will definitely be returning.

Lovely place with vast selection of beverages. There was no need to prebook which was helpful. Staff good; friendly, polite and attentive. Food portion sizes are good, value for money. Particularly enjoyed the rhubarb gin and the homemade lasagne was the best I’ve ever eaten.

After another long hot walk , the choice of 4 real ales was too much . Fortunately they serve beer paddles so I was able to try 3 of them . Friendless staff who were genuinely interested in their beer - which were all superb . We didnt eat , but the sandwiches look great.

Advice to all walkers hoping for refreshment, this pub is shut. Used to be a great pub. Came across it recently on a long walk across the dale. Disappointed that I couldn’t get a drink at lunchtime. Hope it gets some decent new owners. Village needs a decent pub.

Zoe, Lucy, Jill and Emma accommodated 27 of us today for a carvery. The homemade food was so tasty (especially the roast potatoes and parsnips) and a great selection of meats. Plus, the service was amazing!! Great value for money. Would highly recommend!!!

Unfortunately the good reviews must have been when the pub was under different owners. Our holiday cottage had a copy of the menu which looked delicious. Unfortunately we arrived to an empty pub and were handed a limited menu printed on a piece of A4 paper. We stuck it out but good was poor and no atmosphere at all. You’re better off getting fish and chips from down the road

We were staying at Longnor Wood Holiday park and hiked 2 miles to the pub, boy was it worthwhile. Epic selection of ales and the food was outstanding. Possibly the best pie I’ve ever had. The bar staff were very welcoming and friendly. We liked the pub so much we went back the next day. We wish we lived closer as this would be a perfect local. Great value for money too.
