I don't even know where to start with this trip. I was recently there from 5/16 to 5/20 and will never be back. Whenever I go to Mexico, it is usually as a dive trip, and I will stay at an all-inclusive with a dive center on location. This time I took my fiance with the hopes of good food and more of a relaxing stay. This place is a glorified all-inclusive masquerading as a high end luxury resort. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Well, here it goes: Food 1 - Food quality is the exact same as an all inclusive, except you get to pay full price for every meal. As a matter of fact, one night we got to dinner with 10 minutes left (it was a buffet), grabbed one plate each, each plate consisted of lukewarm to cold food. $175 dollars. 2 - The three restaurants offer the exact same food, just presented differently. Total ripoff. 3 - If you are looking for any late-night convenience store-type snacks, good luck, slim pickings. 4 - The breakfast buffet is the exact same every morning. Stuff yourself full of sugary carbs, and maybe get an omelet. Now, onto the rooms At first glance, everything looks nice 3 - The AC in the room appears to shut off at night unknowingly to you, so when you do wake up, it is hot as crap, and you are sweating. The room could be set to 68 degrees (lowest setting), but when you wake up, it is 78 degrees. 4 - The bed is an old-school coil mattress with a cheap topper to hide it. I spent every night awake, in pain, and tried moving to the tiny couch to sleep. The bed caused severe back pain that would shoot all the way down to my legs. At first, I thought maybe I had pulled something or done something to myself, as I never had any back pain. I told the front desk twice that the bed wasn't good and was told they would come to add something to it, never did. Also, first night home and zero pain, it all went away. The process of elimination confirms it was the crap bed there. 5 - The pillows are as hard as a rock. The beach 6 - Wanted a cabana on the beach for an hour, charged me the full day for it, something along the lines of $100 (with my discount from my upgraded concierge service for $150) Overall, it was a terrible experience, and If I could post an advisory to avoid this place at all costs, I would. Overall, it ended up costing me $9k (including $2k flights) for the worst trip I can remember as far as lodging, food, and location goes when I could have gone to Cozumel or Playa del Carmen for $3k all-in with flights and had a much, much, much better time (and probably had a decent night of sleep). ***ALSO - If you are a diver and come with camera equipment, think again. I got stopped at customs while they stared at my underwater camera housing for like 30 minutes before being escorted into a room and told i have to pay a 19% tax on my own housing unit for bringing it into Mexico. That was another $250.
