Went here for a wedding and stayed with friends for a week. We've been to 5 all inclusives over the years. 2 were many years ago and 3 within the last 5 years. We'll start with the pros: The condition of the buildings is excellent. Very clean and very new looking. The grounds around the resort are equally excellent. The plant life all around is stunning and labeled which we thought was cool. I would rate the state of the buildings and grounds a 10 out of 10 Pools were clean and well laid out. You could see crews testing the water 3 times a day. Chairs, umbrellas, towels were all in great shape. Cabanas were very comfortable and easy to obtain. They do charge around $70 a day for them but it was a nice luxury for a couple days Room was also very good. Spacious and clean. Great tiled shower. Big tub in the bathroom and a jetted tub on the balcony building 7. Cleaning and turn down crew were excellent. Never wanted for towels or mini bar. Mattress and linens were all very good. People who work there were all extremely friendly and as helpful as could be. There were a few poor experiences, but our feeling was a lack of training vs a lack of desire. Most people were a credit to this organization. Christian at the Oceana was the best server by far of the trip. Entertaining, funny as hell, brought out a bunch of plates we didn't order just to sample what he thought we might like. Absolutely top notch. Location was a short ride from the airport. Very close to a marina and the town of San Jose. We did tour the town one day on our own and we were pleasantly surprised. Very nice shops around the square and in the artsy area. We didn't eat down there but some of the restaurants looked like they would be a good experience. No vendors or random people hounding you to buy stuff or go somewhere like Cabo. Property right next to resort is a little trashy but every other part of the surroundings is very nice. Amstar shuttle service was good. Easy to identify when we arrived at the airport. We reserved a private transfer which were done with Chevy Suburbans. Very comfortable with good drivers. Our guys had heavy accelerator feet but didn't bother us. Less time riding :) Cons: Some of the cons may seem petty but I would consider this a higher level resort and these things took away from our experience. Food was par to sub par. One surprising exception was lunchs at Market Cafe. I'm a seafood lover and they had a made to order sushi station, sashimi, ceviche, poke, and peel and eat shrimp. Mexican dinner and brazillian dinner at market were sub par. Italian and mexican restaurant food was par. Service at Mexican restaurant was the worst we had all week. Wrong orders, forgot our drink orders twice, waited for 10 minutes to order our dessert and ended up just getting up and leaving. You have to get reservations for the hibachi at the asian restaurant. Only way to get a reservation is to wait in line or go to the prefer
