Booked for daily event. Rooms were tired and dirty. Lighting very bad, coffee undrinkable, bed uncomfortable, tired pillows, fan not working. Rude staff member. Wouldn't recommend or stay again.

This hotel and restaurant is situated close to a new housing estate. There is only one other pub within walking distance so could - should - be in great demand. But it’s not, the restaurant and bar are usually empty. Soulless. Why? A number of reasons. The families living nearby would love to visit a local eatery within walking distance but only if (a) the menu was reasonably priced and (b) the menu was appealing. I ordered a steak but there was no veg available. Not even as a side option? My husband ordered a lasagne which was clearly straight from the microwave. The menu is very very limited. The summer set menu , even worse, with soup as one of the three options. The waiting staff are wonderful but must be bored rigid with the lack of customers. So many customers on your doorstep that you are simply not tapping into. Offer a more varied menu with special offers and not such limited set menus. And stop adding ‘supplements’ to your set menus! Offer happy hours and decent priced drinks. We want variety, good food and an atmosphere- you could attract the whole of the housing estate, many of whom have serious money to spend. Instead, we choose to get a taxi to Thornbury for better options and value. You could be a goldmine but need to rethink your business strategy.

We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend and had a nice sized room, better than we'd hoped for bearing in mind the price. The bathroom was a little small and tired compared with the bedroom. The strangest thing was that our room was unusually not made up during our stay (but this is made clear in the room guide) although we did ask to get new towels. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast had a good buffet selection of hot and cold, and we ate as much as we wanted. We also had one evening meal in the restaurant that was very good, although as others have said, a little pricier than the hotel standard suggests (we paid £79 for two for three courses and a drink). It's very conveniently situated just off a main road, 5 minutes from the motorway junction. I'd recommend.

My wife & I took advantage of the 3 for 2 offer with breakfast included. We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 10 years or so. Usually obtaining friends / family rate. Unfortunately this is no longer available. After our last (previous) stay in 2002 we were loath to use the hotel again, but the offer was too good to miss. We were glad we decided to stay as we had a wonderful long weekend visiting family. The room was very clean. The new shower tap was a vast improvement. Unfortunately we had a room with adjoining door which allowed every sound from next door to be overheard. Breakfast on Sunday was the usual buffet and set us up for the day. The other days were table service. Poached eggs need to be drained before being plated to avoid a water logged plate of food. Tuesday morning was again table service, we had 4 guests join us, 5 of the cooked breakfasts were great my wife’s was poor but she refused to complain. All in all a good stay. Not having our room serviced each morning was a shock, but not that much of a let down. We only had to ask at reception for towels and coffee top ups. We will return if we can secure a future offer…

For the price I paid I was expecting a bit more than I was given. Granted the room was a good size but it was dated, not as clean as I’d expect and the windows weren’t double glazed so I was woken up by delivery vans. Staff were excellent though!

Stayed for a work event in nearby Thornbury, hotel was well situated for the venue and good value. On arrival the hotel looks great from the outside, plenty of parking and it was very quiet anyway. Communal areas are well presented and we were checked in by a lovely lady who gave us a very warm welcome. Rooms are clean but very dated, the excellent staff in the hotel are being let down a bit here by head office as they definitely need some investment. Decor and fittings look very tired but room was clean, comfortable and quiet so definitely could have been worse. Take your own hairdryer as the one in the room was awful, on a very short telephone cord and you have to keep your finger on the button all the time to keep it working. It was like arms day every day!! On site restaurant is a Marco Pierre White, standard of food and service was outstanding, so much so that, even though we had planned to venture out, we ended up eating here every night and it was excellent on each occasion. Staff went above and beyond for us and I was very impressed. Such good customer service is rare in this day and age so I was very pleased.

How people are leaving good reviews for this place are beyond me. The place is a dive. Saved only by the decent food & quality breakfast served by the attached Marco restaurant. The “comfort” room I was given was far from that. Bed springy, furnishings battered, carpets stained, windows might as well not have been there with the draft and noise they let in. To top it off there is no light in the bathroom?! What’s all that about?
