This is my second time at the Dalmeny. This year it was just me and my 8 year old son. We booked the DBB rate for a twin room that could be cancelled up to 48 hrs before if required. When we arrived we were given room 153 which was a large room with double bed, twin beds, sofa and balcony along at the end over the terraced garden rooms. This was a lovely surprise for us. Having all the extra space made the room less chaotic as it sometimes is with a kid and all their stuff in tow. We have previously stayed in a hotel close by and booked the dalmeny this year as I knew the alacarte menu would suit my fussy eater better. However, on the first night he was sent to a kids buffet, which he wasn’t than enamoured with and complained the chips were cold, plus he was finished before I had finished my starter! I asked the server about the buffet and he told me that the kids menu was available and I had I not been told this when we were shown to our table. I wish I had asked in the first instance now. Anyway the next 2 nights were much better and met our expectations. But I did hear the person showing other families near us to their seat and telling them it was the buffet for the kids - felt like they were trying to push that first which is a shame as the pizza on the kids menu was way better than the pizza on the buffet. Food was good in the restaurant for me so no issues there. My son has never been one for joining in the entertainment but the weather wasn’t great so we went to the ballroom and Rocking Rob was on and he was brilliant with all kids and parents. He set the bar high, the next 2 nights weren’t just as good but my son enjoyed them all. Kids entertainment on till ten and be warned it was difficult to drag them away before it finished. We didn’t join in on crafts, but there seemed to be something for young ones, and we didn’t venture into the kids cinema either but good options for rainy days. Car parking at the front was nearly always full and I wasn’t attempting the underground car park, but on exploring the hotel we realised there is a rear car park which accessed from the road behind the hotel (along from the Marks and Spencer) and a good few more spaces here with access to the hotel. We would definitely come back here again, and probably will.
