It was our last night of a driving trip as we were returning home to the Milwaukee area. Excellent service starting with the bellman, valet, front desk and just about anyone we met with one exception. We were there for the Derby party and decided to buy VIP tickets. The food was excellent but I’ m gluten free so there wasn’t much I could eat. By the end of the party I was pretty hungry but felt like having a hamburger. Stopped at the hostess stand and asked her if they served hamburgers… a waiter was talking to the hostess and told us to go to the boathouse. We didn’t know where that was so he said I’ll show you and walked us to the windows and pointed out the building across the street. I have stenosis of the spine and no way could I walk that distance. We decided to go back to the hostess and put our name in- we had to wait a few hours but we retuned and had full meals - different waiter who was excellent-but guess what … their hamburger is one of the specialties…. Imagine my surprise-That waiter was just trying to get rid of us… probably thought two older women wouldn’t tip well and we were only interested in sandwiches. We rarely tip less than 20% and often more if we get exceptional service. It sort of made us feel a bit off for the rest of the stay like he didn’t want us in the restaurant. Had it not been for the inconsiderate waiter, it would have been perfect. Yet I understand that this one person is not representative of the entire staff. However, if the guy doesn’t want to serve a hamburger he should probably find a restaurant to work at that doesn’t offer it on their menu and let the hostess do her job and not interfere with a guests stay.
