We always stay at the Graduate in Madison for location to campus and the amenities, namely the rooftop bar that we can access as an option that is a bit less crazy than some State Street locations. For graduation weekend we booked two rooms for two families, paid PREMIUM pricing and had to book a minimum of three nights even though we really only needed two nights. On Saturday after graduation ceremonies, we planned to end our night at the rooftop bar away from the fray of State Street, only to find out it was being rented for a private event. So here we were - 8 people from out of state - with no back up plan. At a minimum, we should have been told when we checked in on Thursday that the bar would not be available on Saturday night and we would have had time to come up with Plan B. I think hotel guests should have access to the amenities, and if not, we should be communicated with well in advance. We would have considered staying elsewhere given the price we paid and the requirement to stay three nights.
