The Boathouse Lodge

I booked this place last minute because there in was literally nowhere else to stay in that area. It was our only option! We arrived and knocked on the door and got no answer! Eventually a woman with a black eye opened the door and very kindly let us in. But it took an other 20 minutes to find someone who could give us the key to our room. The place is located on the main road into Bundoran in what seemed like a very rough area. Our room was on the second floor and had a double bed and two singles! It was large and the beds were comfy and the bedding appeared relatively clean. But the whole building smelled of damp mould. There were no towels provided and there was no hot water In the whole building. There were two showers shared for the whole building & neither had warm water. One shower got scolding hot and then cut out to freezing cold straight away, obviously the electric shower had a fault! But even the sink didn’t have hot water. The bathrooms smelled of urine and the whole place just seemed dirty! I definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

Firstly... the views from the back of the hostel, out over Bundoran Bay are stunning! But that is pretty much it for the positives. This is the 3rd hostel we have stayed in during the last week... this was a very similar price to the others. The standard however, does not come close... it was dramatically poorer. There were no staff. No staff on arrival... and no instructions how to book in. We saw no staff at all through out our visit. We feel the lack of staff had a direct impact on the mess in the kitchen. The floor was not swept at all during our stay, bins were not emptied and were overflowing. We woke up this morning to find someone sleeping in the communal lounge. The walls are paper thin the noise is ridiculous. Again a member of staff would have kept on top of most of these things.

Very friendly and welcoming staff . Property very clean. Great for the family. Very relaxing and homely feel. We stayed one night with our family and friends . Very simple but what more do you need to unwind. Thoroughly enjoyed it. No hesitation in recommending and we’ll definitely return again for a visit. Excellent value .
